Pursuing NCAA waiver

September 3, 2019
Barcello plans to submit a waiver request to the NCAA in pursuit of immediate eligibility at BYU in 2019-20, Jeff Goodman of WatchStadium.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A transfer from Arizona, Barcello moved to Provo in July after BYU had an open scholarship following Nick Emery's medical retirement. If the NCAA isn't moved by Barcello's argument for the waiver, he would be forced to sit out the upcoming campaign before returning to action in 2020-21 with two years of eligibility remaining. At that time, Barcello could be the top candidate to replace T.J. Haws -- who will exhaust his eligibility after this season -- as the Cougars' starting point guard.
