2024 Tournament PreviewJames Madison got the nation's attention with an opening-night victory over Michigan State, the first of 14 consecutive wins. The Dukes then won the Sun Belt tournament as the No. 2 seed to earn the automatic NCAA bid. Strong on both sides of the court, James Madison excels with perimeter defense, holding opponents to 28.6 shooting, second lowest in the nation. The offense features five players with at least 115 attempts from distance, all of whom shoot 35 percent or higher. Junior guard Terrence Edwards Jr. (17.4 ppg) can take over games and 6-8 senior forward Julien Wooden (9.9 ppg) is a 40.9 percent long-range shooter. They are complemented by key transfers Noah Freidel (12.1 ppg) and 6-9 T.J. Bickerstaff (13.4 ppg, 8.5 rpg), from South Dakota State and Boston College, respectively. Other than that season-opening upset, however, James Madison doesn't have a Quad 1 or 2 victory. The Dukes' first-round opponent, Wisconsin, will be their toughest test to date.
