2024 Tournament PreviewWhile last year was a rebuilding season for South Carolina in the post-Frank Martin era, coach Lamont Paris executed a remarkable turnaround in Year 2. The Gamecocks roared to a 13-1 start and were serious contenders for the SEC regular-season title, finishing a game out of first. Paris implemented his usual roadmap -- control tempo and stout defense -- to find success in a power conference. The Gamecocks play at one of the nation's slowest paces - 354th (per KenPom) - and rank top 55 in both defensive efficiency and opponent effective field-foal percentage. Impressively, they do it without creating turnovers (307th in turnover rate). Junior Meechie Johnson (13.8 ppg) and 6-8 senior B.J. Mack (13.6 ppg) are the primary scorers, while seniors Ta'Lon Cooper (45.3 percent) and Myles Stute (39.5 percent) are perimeter threats. But with just four Quad 1 wins and a pair of Quad 3 losses, South Carolina is still a bit of a question.
