Week 16 brings a shortened three-game CFL slate, but there are still several appealing opportunities on the betting board.

We're backing Montreal against a Hamilton team forced to make another change under center, targeting the touchdown upside of one of the best quarterbacks in the league in what could become a high-scoring matchup and turning to Calgary's short-yardage specialist with the Stampeders potentially missing their leading running back.

CFL Best Bets and Player Props for Week 16

Montreal Alouettes vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats

  • Alouettes -5.5, -110 @ FanDuel

Montreal has stumbled after its dominant start to the season, losing three of its last four after opening 9-0, but this is an excellent opportunity for the Alouettes to get back on track. Hamilton will start third-string quarterback Harrison Frost, who has completed just 58.8 percent of his passes for 734 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions this season. Bo Levi Mitchell's ankle injury has ended his season, while Tre Ford recently recovered from a head injury and has been cleared but will begin the game behind Frost. That's an unfortunate situation for a Hamilton offense that ranks second-to-last in scoring per game this season with 23.2 points per game.

Montreal has already beaten Hamilton twice this season, winning 30-27 in Week 1 and 31-18 in Week 8, and the quarterback disparity gives the Alouettes a strong opportunity to complete the season sweep. With the number still below a touchdown, Montreal -5.5 is worth backing despite the team's recent dip in form, as they still feature one of the best offenses in the CFL. The Alouettes averaged 425.5 total yards per game, the third-best mark in the league, and they lead the league in scoring at 35.5 ppg.

Edmonton Elks vs. Toronto Argonauts

  • Chad Kelly over 2.5 passing touchdowns (+140, BetMGM)

Three passing touchdowns is an aggressive threshold, but the plus-money price becomes attractive when considering Chad Kelly's recent production and Toronto's reliance on its passing game. Kelly has cleared this line in three of his last four games and enters Week 16 leading the CFL in both passing yards (4,404) and passing touchdowns (29) while completing 71.6 percent of his attempts.

Edmonton represents a difficult matchup, as the Elks allow a league-low 24.8 points and 260.2 passing yards per game. However, that could actually force Toronto to remain aggressive through the air rather than leaning on a rushing attack that ranks eighth in the CFL at 82.2 yards per contest. Kelly threw for 443 yards and two scores against Ottawa last week, and Toronto may need another high-volume performance to keep pace with an Edmonton team riding a four-game winning streak. At +140, backing the league leader in touchdown passes to throw at least three offers enough upside to justify the difficult matchup.

Ottawa Redblacks vs. Calgary Stampeders

Quincy Vaughn's role makes him far more valuable around the goal line than his conventional rushing numbers suggest, and that role could become even larger Saturday. Dedrick Mills, who ranks second in the CFL in rushing yards this season with 943, is dealing with a hip injury and hasn't practiced in the last two days, so his availability for Week 16 is uncertain. That could open the door for Vaughn to have an even bigger goal-line role,

Vaughn has already scored nine rushing touchdowns this season, the third-highest total in the CFL, despite functioning primarily as Calgary's short-yardage quarterback rather than a traditional running back. That specialized usage is exactly what makes an anytime touchdown wager appealing: Vaughn doesn't need significant volume or yardage to cash it, only for Calgary to reach the doorstep. Against an 0-12 Ottawa team, the Stampeders should have opportunities to reach scoring territory, and any extra goal-line work created by Mills' absence only strengthens Vaughn's chances of finding the end zone.
