Hot and Cold: Hot and Cold (11/18)

This article is part of our Hot and Cold series.

ACC

Hot
Maryland quarterback Danny O'Brien has gotten on a roll towards the end of his redshirt freshman season. O'Brien's yardage totals have been a bit sporadic, but he has accounted for 11 total touchdowns over his last four games.

Although quarterback Jacory Harris has missed the last couple games with a concussion, Miami (FL) wide receiver Leonard Hankerson has remained a steady fantasy producer. Hankerson has found the end zone five straight weeks, giving him 11 receiving touchdowns this season.

Cold

Wake Forest running back Josh Harris exploded for 241 yards and two scores against Virginia Tech in Week 7, but he has run for just 114 yards and one touchdown in the three games since.

North Carolina State running back Mustafa Greene scored a touchdown in each of his first four collegiate games, but he has scored just once in the last six games and has racked up more than 80 total yards just once since Week 5.

Big 12

Hot

Texas A&M running back Cyrus Gray ran for just seven yards in a three-game stretch in the middle of the season, but a couple blowouts and an injury to primary back Christine Michael has allowed Gray to post huge fantasy numbers of late. Gray has topped the 100-yard mark in four straight games and has scored eight touchdowns during that span, including four last week.

Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones has been on fire of late. Jones has thrown for 1,697 yards and 16 touchdowns - including five

Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones has been on fire of late. Jones has thrown for 1,697 yards and 16 touchdowns - including five last week - over his last five games.

Cold

Save for a five-touchdown performance in Week 8, Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez has not done much for fantasy owners recently. Martinez missed a game two weeks ago, but he has accounted for just one total touchdown in his three other games since Week 6.

Texas Tech running back Baron Batch has run for 225 yards over the last two weeks, but he has not run for a touchdown since Week 7 and scored just five times this season after reaching the end zone 15 times a year ago.

Big East

Hot

Connecticut running back Jordan Todman has played in just eight games this season, but he has run for nearly as many yards as he did in 13 games a year ago. Todman ran for a season-high 222 yards in last week's victory over Pittsburgh.

After a disastrous start to the season, Pittsburgh running back Dion Lewis has totaled more than 80 yards in four of his last five games and has scored five touchdowns over that span.

Cold

Syracuse wide receiver Van Chew averaged 70 receiving yards over his first seven games, but has been held to a total of just 65 receiving yards over the last three weeks.

Rutgers freshman quarterback Chas Dodd played well in his first couple starts this season, but he has thrown for just 231 yards and no touchdowns over his last three games. He's losing snaps due to Rutgers' wildcat formation, too.

Big Ten

Hot

Ohio State running back Dan Herron has been a touchdown machine all season, but he has added big yardage totals to the equation over the last couple weeks. Herron ran for 304 yards over his last two games and scored a touchdown in each game, giving him at least one in nine straight games and 13 in all.

Montee Ball was Wisconsin's third running back for most of the season, but injuries to John Clay and James White have opened the door for Ball to see increased carries. Wisconsin's offense has not missed a beat, as Ball has totaled 367 yards and six touchdowns over his last three games.

Cold

Indiana wide receiver Damarlo Belcher topped the 90-yard mark in four of his first six games and hauled in four touchdown passes over that span, but he has been held to just 226 receiving yards and no scores over the Hoosiers' last four games.

Purdue running back Dan Dierking ran for more than 100 yards twice and scored four times in the Boilermakers' first six games, but a rib injury kept him from playing against Ohio State in Week 8. Since returning, Dierking has not topped 55 rushing yards or scored a touchdown in any of his three games.

Conference USA

Hot

Tulsa quarterback G.J. Kinne has put up decent rushing totals all season, but he ripped off 190 yards and a touchdown on the ground in last week's victory over Houston and added two passing touchdowns. Kinne has put up at least 17 fantasy points in every game this season.

UAB quarterback Bryan Ellis has really picked up his touchdown pace of late. Ellis threw five touchdown passes in last week's loss to East Carolina and has accounted for 16 touchdowns over his last five games.

Cold

Tulsa running back Charles Clay scored six touchdowns in his first seven games, but he has not scored in his last three games and has totaled just 109 yards over that span.

Marshall wide receiver Aaron Dobson hauled in four touchdown passes and topped the 100-yard mark twice over his first six games, but he has been limited to just 230 receiving yards and one touchdown over the last four weeks.

Independents

Hot

Navy starting quarterback Ricky Dobbs suffered a concussion two weeks ago, but backup Kriss Proctor has been more than serviceable in his place. Proctor ran for 201 yards and a touchdown last week after running for two touchdowns in place of the injured Dobbs the week before. He'll likely lose the spot to Dobbs this week, but Proctor made the most of his opportunities.

Cold

Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert recorded 72 receiving yards and a touchdown in his first start in place of the injured Kyle Rudolph, but he has put up just 118 yards and has not found the end zone over his last three games.

MAC

Hot

Toledo running back Adonis Thomas did not score in the Rockets' first four games, but he has scored a total of seven touchdowns over his last six games and has put up 690 yards over that span.

Western Michigan quarterback Alex Carder has steadily improved in his first year as a starter, and he has really come on in recent weeks. Carder has thrown for 1,353 yards and 15 touchdowns over his last four games.

Cold

Kent State quarterback Spencer Keith threw for fewer than 170 yards in each of the last two weeks and did not throw a touchdown pass in either contest.

Central Michigan running back Paris Cotton has been held to just 156 rushing yards and one touchdown over the last four games he has appeared in. Zurlon Tipton and Carl Volny have stole carries lately, so don't expect Cotton to make much of a comeback.

MWC

Hot

TCU quarterback Andy Dalton has been on a roll of late. Since Week 6, Dalton has thrown 17 touchdown passes and run for two others in six games.

With Dalton putting up big numbers in the passing game, TCU wide receiver Jeremy Kerley has become a consistent fantasy contributor. Kerley has scored at least one touchdown in five of his last six games and has a total of eight scores over that span.

Cold

Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn has not thrown for more than 200 yards in any of his last three games, and he also has a sub-par 1:2 TD:INT ratio over that span. If Wynn's struggles continue this week, do not be surprised to see backup Terrance Cain get some snaps.

With Wynn struggling, Utah wide receiver Jereme Brooks has been anything but a consistent fantasy contributor. Brooks hauled in four touchdown passes in his first three games, but he has not scored since and has just 230 receiving in the last seven games.

Pac-10

Hot

Marc Tyler seems to have finally separated himself from the rest of the talented USC running backs. Tyler received a career-high 31 carries last week and ran for 160 yards and a touchdown—his fourth straight game with at least one score.

California running back Shane Vereen has run for 112 yards in each of his last two games and has scored three touchdowns over that span. Vereen needs two more yards to reach the 1,000-yard mark for the first time.

Cold

Washington State quarterback Jeff Tuel was hot earlier this season, but he has been held to 200 passing yards or fewer in each of his last three games and has just one touchdown pass over that span.

USC wide receiver Robert Woods exploded for 340 yards and five touchdowns between Weeks 6 and 7, but he has been held to just 118 yards in the three games since despite catching 18 passes.

SEC

Hot

Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has gotten healthy and gotten hot. Mallett accounted for six touchdowns in a victory over UTEP last week and has 927 passing yards and 11 total touchdowns over his last three games.

Kentucky wide receiver Randall Cobb has totaled 509 yards and four touchdowns in the last three weeks and has scored at least once in all but two games this season.

Cold

Florida quarterback John Brantley has thrown just two touchdown passes in his last six games and has only thrown more than 200 yards in three games this season. Brantley looks like a bad fit in the run-heavy Florida spread, as he's less of a Tim Tebow and more of a Ryan Mallett as far as playing styles go.

LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson has just two total touchdowns over his last four games—both in the same week—and has thrown for only 266 passing yards over that span.

Sun Belt

Hot

Over the last six weeks, Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin has thrown for 12 touchdowns and also added eight more on the ground. Those numbers have made him a viable fantasy starter in all formats.

Florida International wide receiver T.Y. Hilton has recorded at least 65 receiving yards in each of his last four games, but he has also made his mark in the running game by picking up 182 yards on the ground the last two weeks. Hilton has scored six touchdowns in his last four games.

Cold

Louisiana-Monroe running back Frank Goodin scored just one time in his last four games and ran for only 111 yards over that span. After being one of the better runners nationwide last year, Goodin has been a monumental bust in 2010.

Like Goodin, Louisiana-Monroe wide receiver Luther Ambrose has been quiet recently. Ambrose scored four times in his first seven games, but he has been limited to just 161 yards and no touchdowns over the last three weeks.

WAC

Hot

San Jose State quarterback Jordan La Secla has played very well in recent weeks. La Secla has thrown for 984 yards and accounted for eight touchdowns over his last three games.

Boise State running back Doug Martin has totaled at least 88 yards in each of his last four games and has scored six times over that span.

Cold

After topping the 300-yard mark four times in his first six games, Idaho quarterback Nathan Enderle has been held under 225 yards in each of his last three contests. Enderle posted a 1:2 TD:INT ratio over that span, but fortunately he was able to add a rushing touchdown two weeks ago.

Idaho wide receiver Justin Veltung recorded 140 yards and four touchdown receptions in Week 7, but he has been limited to just 137 yards and one touchdown in the four games since.
