Past Fantasy Outlooks
2013
2012
Shaw remains the Gamecocks’ starter heading into the 2013 season, but missed the entire spring due to foot surgery. He missed two games a season ago and shared time with Dylan Thompson in a few others, so Shaw heads in to his senior season with questions. He’s the unquestioned leader of this team, and is a solid dual-threat quarterback who has 11 touchdowns in the past two seasons. He’s not the best passer in the world, but he’s more than adequate at distributing the ball. Running less doesn’t seem to be in Shaw’s style, and as long as he’s healthy, he’ll be on the field for most of USC’s snaps this year. Just know he comes with risk.
Shaw was effective after replacing Stephen Garcia as South Carolina's starter last year, totaling 1,419 yards (8.0 YPA), 14 touchdowns and six interceptions passing while running for 485 yards and eight touchdowns in the final eight weeks of the season. That averages to roughly 25 points per game in standard scoring. The only reason he isn't ranked higher is South Carolina is short on receivers now that Alshon Jeffery is gone. Shaw also didn't show much ability to produce against good defenses last season, which makes him too a bit too hit-or-miss.
