UCF dismissed Stanback on Tuesday, Orlando Sentinel writer Matt Murschel reports.
ANALYSIS
Stanback's dismissal was explained with the standard line about team rules violations. Coach George O'Leary has only been subtle in his distaste for Stanback for a while now, so this news isn't terribly surprising. UCF is shaping up to be a major mess this year, as all of quarterback Justin Holman (hand), running back Dontravious Wilson (leg) and receiver Jordan Akins (ACL) are out with injuries, and Akins will likely miss the entire season. Taj McGowan is the top healthy runner for UCF, but he's been struggling along with the rest of the UCF offense.

Stanback (5-11, 221) was a quietly important piece of UCF's BCS Bowl-winning squad last year as an explosive off-the-bench runner behind Storm Johnson and a dangerous receiving threat for QB Blake Bortles. He finished his freshman year with 443 yards (4.2 YPC) and six touchdowns on the ground while adding 15 catches for 186 yards and a touchdown. After Johnson and Stanback, no other UCF runner had more than nine carries last season. As the best bet to take over as starter with Johnson joining Bortles on the Jacksonville Jaguars, Stanback should get most of the 16.4 carries per game Johnson leaves behind, as well as most of Johnson's 30 receptions, giving him significant PPR upside.
