Won't return in 2018
Shoulder
November 22, 2017
Del Rio (shoulder) will not return to Florida and use his sixth season of eligibility in 2018.
ANALYSIS
Del Rio underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in September that leaves him with eligibility to return for a sixth season, but he has instead decided to call it a career. With him out of the picture in 2018, Feleipe Franks seems the leader in the clubhouse to earn the starting job for Florida to begin the campaign.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
The journeyman redshirt junior looks like he’s finally landed on solid ground as Del Rio has all but beaten out his competition for Florida’s starting quarterback gig. The dominos in Florida’s locker room have fallen in such a way that Del Rio is the most experienced signal caller in terms of time in the UF system given that Purdue graduate transfer Austin Appleby, Feliepe Franks, and Kyle Trask all just arrived on campus and Treon Harris transferred. There’s essentially no game film on Del Rio aside from 18 pass attempts spread over three games while at Oregon State in 2014, so it’s difficult to ascertain the exact type of quarterback we’ll be seeing provided he starts Week 1. That said, Florida’s pass offense was solid until Will Grier was handed a suspension, and coach Jim McElwain has a sterling reputation as an offensive mind thanks to his time at Alabama as an OC and at Colorado State as the head coach. Del Rio won’t have a shortage of weapons at his disposal with the likes of Antonio Callaway, Brandon Powell, and an impressive slew of incoming freshman wideouts. The lack of pedigree is concerning here, though, and Del Rio generally shouldn’t have high expectations.
