North Carolina: Renner Out For Season
Shoulder
November 5, 2013
Renner's separated shoulder is more serious than originally anticipated, and the senior is done for the season, and his career, according to Inside Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Renner actually returned for one play Saturday at North Carolina State, but it has proven to be a condition Renner can't play through. Marquise Williams will now be a full time starter for the rest of 2013, and has a dual skill set that will make him a fantasy commodity.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2013
2012
2011
2010
Renner proved doubters wrong in 2012, showing his ability to manage and thrive in a spread offense. He threw for 3,356 yards, 28 touchdowns and just seven interceptions a year ago, and with running back Gio Bernard gone, this is clearly Renner’s offense. With a budding star in Quinshad Davis ready to catch whatever Renner throws his way, expect at least similar numbers in 2013, if not a nice little boost.
Renner was predictably quite shaky at times for North Carolina in 2011, his first as a starter, but he was promising more often than not as he finished with 3,086 yards (8.8 YPA), 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 13 games. Even with the loss of star wideout Dwight Jones, it's reasonable to expect improvement from Renner as new coach Larry Fedora takes over. Previously at Southern Mississippi, Fedora turned Austin Davis into one of the nation's best fantasy quarterbacks the last few years and, while Renner's skill set is quite different (he's less mobile but a better passer), Fedora's creativity should find a way to make the most of the situation.
Renner is a former high-ranking recruit for North Carolina who will have high expectations this year. Not much is known about what he'll be capable of at the college level, and North Carolina's offense isn't known as a super-aggressive one, but he should be a fine target in ACC-only leagues, at least.
Renner is a former top-10 quarterback recruit who will get his chance to play this year if starter T.J. Yates struggles even briefly. North Carolina needs to win a lot of games this year, and they won't have patience for mistakes. Renner would inherit a pretty good group of skill players on offense if he does see the field, so he may be worth a later-round pick in ACC-only leagues and is worth a close look in other formats if Yates gets benched.
