Waiver Wire Watch: Players to Pick Up Week 4

Week 3 was a mixed bag of results for my recommendations as some of the picks fell down with injuries and others had alright performances. My advice should only get better as we have more data and trends to look at as we get further in the season. As a friendly reminder, make sure to keep up with injury news as this article is posted early in the week. As always, I'll get to any questions or comments you have in the comments section below.

AAC

Chad President, QB, Tulsa: Still owned in just 7% of fantasy leagues, President was fantastic in a losing effort versus Toledo. While he only threw for 125 yards through the air, he rushed for 130 yards and had two rushing touchdowns. In three games this season, the sophomore has four rushing touchdowns. This week's opponent, New Mexico, does have a decent rush defense, but that should only help President, who will have to make plays when running backs D'Angelo Brewer and Shamari Brooks are the focus of the Lobos' defensive attack.

Trey Quinn, WR, SMU: Quinn appears to be emerging as the main receiving threat opposite Courtland Sutton with at least four catches in each of the Mustangs' first three games. Quinn is coming off a seven-catch, 116-yard performance in a loss to TCU. If SMU can put up 36 points and 463 yards against the Horned Frogs, it should be able to

Quinn is coming off a seven-catch, 116-yard performance in a loss to TCU. If SMU can put up 36 points and 463 yards against the Horned Frogs, it should be able to do the same thing against Arkansas State.
*Houston (vs. Texas Tech) and Memphis (vs. Southern Illinois) have soft match-ups so if any of their starters are available, they should be picked up for this week.

ACC

Josh Jackson, QB, Virginia Tech: Owned in under 50% of leagues, Jackson has been one of the best fantasy quarterbacks in the nation with nine total touchdowns in his first three games. The freshman absolutely shredded East Carolina's defense with 372 passing yards and five touchdowns. Good times should continue for Jackson against an Old Dominion team who gave up 53 points to ACC opponent North Carolina. If wide receiver Cam Phillips is somehow available, make sure to go get him as well.

Shaun Wilson, RB, Duke: Wilson has reached double digit fantasy points each week and was his team's biggest performer in Week 3 with 208 total yards and two touchdowns. North Carolina's defense has already given up some big plays this season, so it could be an interesting matchup. Moreover, Wilson appears to be in line for enough volume to be owned in most leagues going forward.
*Louisville (vs. Kent State) and Miami (vs. Toledo) have soft matchups so if any of their starters are available, they should be picked up for this week.

BIG 12

Marcus Simms, WR, West Virginia: In a small slate for the conference (only four games) in Week 4, Simms appears to be a good pickup for those looking for a receiver. After missing the first week of the season due to suspension following his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving, he's nabbed three touchdowns in two games. The Mountaineers are loaded at receiver with Simms, Gary Jennings, Ka'Raun White and David Sills, so caution this recommendation because Will Grier will spread the ball around. It shouldn't matter against Kansas who can't stop any opposing quarterback at the moment.

Darius Anderson, RB, TCU: For the second-consecutive week, Anderson has been the best running back for the Horned Frogs. While Kyle Hicks has returned from a knee injury, Anderson simply looks better and will at the very least garner as many carries as Hicks going forward. TCU has a showdown with Oklahoma State and it could be a shootout which would be a big positive for Anderson.
*Texas Tech (vs. Houston) has a match-up which projects at a huge over/under, so go after their starters if available.

BIG TEN

J.K. Dobbins, RB, Ohio State: Somehow owned in only 60% of leagues, Dobbins appears to be the next big name in the world of college football running backs. Against Army, he ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries. He'll run wild against UNLV this week and most likely against every other team on the Buckeyes' schedule.

Stanley Morgan Jr., WR, Nebraska: The Cornhuskers were shocked at home by Northern Illinois, which bodes well for Morgan's fantasy prospective because Nebraska will probably have to throw the ball a bunch during conference play. Morgan was just six yards shy of posting his third 100 yard receiving game of the season versus the Huskies and is definitely quarterback Tanner Lee's favorite target. Morgan's volume should be plentiful against Rutgers on Saturday.
*Indiana (vs. Georgia Southern) has a soft match-up so if any of their starters are available, they should be picked up for this week.

Conference-USA

Dalton Sturm, QB, UTSA: Sturm totaled five touchdowns in a 51-17 win over Southern University, which was expected, but it was his two touchdowns against Baylor the week before which suggests that the Roadrunners have an offense which will be successful in Conference USA. Sturm could be started this week against Texas State, but this is more of a recommendation for later in the season when UTSA starts conference play on October 14th. Also keep an eye on TE Shaq Williams, who recorded two touchdowns versus Southern.

Jalen Guyton, WR, North Texas: Owned in less than a quarter of leagues, Guyton is the top receiver with the Mean Green with eight catches for 185 yards and three touchdowns in the first three contests. He was mostly shut down by Iowa with only one catch for a touchdown, but that won't continue against lesser competition like Week 4's opponent, UAB.
*Charlotte (vs. Georgia State) and Western Kentucky (vs. Ball State) have soft match-ups so if any of their starters are available, they should be picked up this week.

MAC

Anthony Johnson, WR, Buffalo: Digging deep for this recommendation, however, Johnson has been fairly reliable the first three weeks with 16 catches for 282 yards and two touchdowns. There's no reason to think he can't put up similar fantasy production against Florida Atlantic this week and Kent State the following week.

Jamauri Bogan, RB, Western Michigan: Bogan is primed for a breakout game with double-digit carries in each of his first three games. His quarterback, John Wassink, has been a vulture for rushing touchdowns, but I'm predicting that won't happen against Wagner as Bogan will rip off some long gains. It only gets better after that with games against Ball State, Buffalo and Akron.

Mountain West

Diocemy Saint Juste, RB, Hawaii: Available in over half of all fantasy leagues, Saint Juste's volume in the Warriors' first two games was insane. He rushed for 434 yards and a touchdown on 75 carries while also catching a touchdown. It's also a plus that the Warriors were off in Week 3, so he could have been dropped. Oregon rushed for 307 yards against Wyoming, so Saint Juste should be in line for another productive week.

Jake Roh, TE, Boise State: Roh exploded for three touchdowns in Boise State's 28-14 win over New Mexico while catching two scores and taking a direct snap for a score. The sad part is that pretty much no one benefited from it in regards to fantasy. As discussed in previous weeks, tight end production is hard to come by in the college game, so you have to take it when you can. The Broncos play on Friday Night, so at the very least it could give you something to root for prior to the Saturday slate.

PAC-12

Tyler Huntley, QB, Utah: Owned in only 32% of fantasy leagues, Huntley threw four touchdowns in Week 3 on his way to nearly 40 fantasy points. The best part of his skill set is the double digit carries he's recorded in each of the Utes' first three games, tallying up three rushing touchdowns to go with his five passing touchdowns. Huntley should be able to continue running free when Utah travels to play Arizona this week.

Manny Wilkins, QB, Arizona State: Time to roll with Wilkins each week because the junior has thrown near or over 300 yards in the first three games, including seven touchdowns and no interceptions. Arizona State's defense is atrocious once again meaning that the Sun Devils will need to throw the ball a lot to compete like they did while rallying and falling just short in a 52-45 loss to Texas Tech on Saturday. Arizona State plays Oregon this week and if you don't remember, these two teams combined for 89 points last year.
*Washington State (vs. Nevada), Stanford (vs. UCLA) and Washington (at Colorado) have soft match-ups so if any of their starters are available, they should be picked up this week.

SEC

Aeris Williams, RB, Mississippi State: Williams may not score a ton of rushing touchdowns because of quarterback Nick Fitzgerald, but he will get plenty of carries as he showed with his 23 totes for 146 yards versus LSU. The junior is averaging north of six yards per carry and appears to be getting better and better witch each game. Not every SEC team has a great defense, so this is a pick-up with the future in mind.

Quinten Dormady, QB, Tennessee: If you're going to use Dormady at all, this is the week to do it as the Volunteers play the University of Massachusetts. Dormady couldn't have played worse against Florida while throwing three interceptions and then having to stand on the sidelines while Florida won on a stunning Hail Mary as time expired.

SUN BELT

Justice Hansen, QB, Arkansas State: This will probably be the week that RB Warren Wand goes crazy since he was the recommendation last week. It was Wand who only had one rushing touchdown while Hansen threw five touchdowns in a 48-3 route of Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Saturday. The Red Wolves opponent this week, SMU, gave up an astonishing 619 offensive yards and 56 points to TCU. I'm not saying Arkansas State will handle the Mustangs quite like that, but they should be able to move the ball.

Osharmar Abercrombie, RB, Coastal Carolina: Not owned in nearly enough leagues, Abercrombie racked up two touchdowns to give the senior four scores on the year in two games. He's averaging 6.2 yards per carry on 36 attempts and will play the Leathernecks of Western Illinois in Week 4. Western Illinois will probably compete with the Chanticleers, but that doesn't mean Abercrombie can't score a couple of more touchdowns.
