Perth Scorchers are ready to face Adelaide Strikers in the ninth match of the Big Bash League (BBL) in Perth on Wednesday. The game is of great significance to the home side, who are yet to register a win in the tournament. In their previous game, Scorchers suffered a 17-run defeat against Sydney Sixers on Saturday. In the all-important clash, Scorchers will also going to be without regular captain Mitchell Marsh, who will be playing for Australia in the third Test against India.
In his absence, the team will be relying heavily on stand-in captain Ashton Turner and Hilton Cartwright in the batting department to score bulk of the runs, whereas in the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jason Behrendorff and Jhye Richardson to provide timely breakthroughs.
On the other hand, Strikers will enter the contest as favourites and will be hoping to put a much better show than they did in their previous match against Melbourne Renegades, where they suffered a five-wicket defeat. In the batting department, the team will be relying on the likes of captain Colin Ingram, Matthew Short and Alex Carey to score bulk of the runs, whereas in the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Rashid Khan, Billy Stanlake and Ben Laughlin to provide timely breakthroughs. In the last five matches between both teams, Scorchers managed to win three, whereas Strikers emerged victorious on two occasions.
