Three weeks into the 2026 NFL season, a clear picture is forming of which rookies are earning bigger roles and which ones are losing snaps to crowded committees, injuries or coaching decisions.
Per RotoWire's 2026 NFL Rookie Index, a composite score built from snap share, snap share growth since Week 1, target and touch share, and cumulative production, 26 rookies across every position group are ranked together on a single 0-100 scale. The index weighs role growth over one-week stat spikes, so a quiet game for a workhorse back or full-time starter still outranks a huge box score from a rookie who barely sees the field.

Biggest Risers in Rookie Usage Through Week 3
Kansas City cornerback Mansoor Delane posted the largest role jump in the class. After token Week 1 snaps and a missed Week 2 with a shoulder injury, Delane returned in Week 3 directly into a 98.6% defensive snap share, adding a pass breakup, 10 tackles and a tackle for loss. Arizona running back Jeremiyah Love is the top offensive riser, with his snap share climbing from 42.7% in Week 1 to 64.4% in Week 3 behind 21 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown. Cleveland wide receiver KC Concepcion posted the steepest snap-share climb among skill players, from 68.6% to 85.7%, while Jets tight end Kenyon Sadiq nearly doubled his role from Week 2 to Week 3 before a breakout eight-target, seven-catch, 105-yard game.
Rookies Losing Snaps and Role
Not every rookie is trending up. San Francisco running back Kaelon Black has seen his snap share crater from 43.1% to 14.8% as Christian McCaffrey's workload expanded, and Seattle's Jadarian Price has lost snap share every week in a crowded backfield. On defense, Indianapolis safety A.J. Haulcy has the steepest decline in the class, falling from a 98.5% Week 1 peak to 63.0% by Week 3, and Dallas linebacker Malachi Lawrence has seen his role shrink in each of the first three weeks.
Jalon Daniels' Path From Zero Snaps to Starting Quarterback
The class's biggest opportunity swing belongs to a quarterback who is not in the numeric rankings. Tampa Bay's Jalon Daniels played zero snaps in Weeks 1 and 2, then saw four snaps of Week 3 mop-up duty. With Baker Mayfield sidelined at least three weeks by a thumb injury, Daniels has been named the Buccaneers' starting quarterback entering Week 4, the single largest role change tracked in the 2026 rookie class so far.
