NFL Week 3 Odds: Biggest Line Moves, Betting Splits and Key Injuries
The goal of this article is to look at the key line moves for the week and what they mean in terms of betting. Key numbers in the NFL to watch for are 3, 7, 6, 14, and 10. When a line crosses through one of these, it warrants significant attention.
On the totals side, the key numbers are 41, 43, 37, 44, 51, 33, 47.
A quarterback is the only position that can significantly move an NFL point spread, and a top-tier QB can be worth up to seven or more points. For all other positions, the impact is minimal and usually less than a single point, unless multiple players on the same unit are injured. When a unit has multiple starters out, it is often overlooked in the handicapping world. OL, DL, secondary, and WR are the units that are impacted the most.

NFL Week 3 Report
NFL Week 3 Line Movement: Betting Splits, Injuries and Market Impact
Week 3 features several major moves from the early lookahead market, including favorite flips, moves through key numbers and some dramatic adjustments to totals.
Injuries are playing an increasingly important role. Washington's quarterback situation has helped drive Seattle's move, while Monday night's Giants-Rams game created several new injury questions surrounding New York.
Current spreads and totals are from BetMGM, while betting percentages are from DraftKings Sportsbook.
Falcons at Packers: Total Falls as Market Backs Away From Green Bay
Lookahead: Packers -7.5 | Total 46.5
Current: Packers -6.5 | Total 43.5
Movement: ATL +1.0 | Total -3.0
DK Spread Split: Packers 79% bets | 79% money
Green Bay remains a comfortable home favorite, but the total has undergone the more significant adjustment, dropping three points. The spread has also moved a point toward Atlanta despite heavy public support for the Packers.
Injury Impact: Michael Penix Jr.'s return to Atlanta's starting lineup is the biggest offensive development. The Falcons also need to monitor CB A.J. Terrell, while Green Bay remains without Josh Jacobs because of his availability situation. Those personnel questions help explain why this matchup warrants more attention than the one-point spread move alone suggests.
Betting Takeaway: The three-point decline in the total is the headline. Green Bay is drawing the majority of both tickets and money, yet the spread has moved toward Atlanta. That is worth monitoring before Thursday.
Chiefs at Dolphins: Kansas City Takes Off
Lookahead: Chiefs -7.5 | Total 44.5
Current: Chiefs -11.5 | Total 45.5
Movement: KC +4.0 | Total +1.0
DK Spread Split: Chiefs 84% bets | 90% money
Kansas City has generated one of the largest spread moves on the Week 3 board, jumping four points and moving through the key number of 10.
The betting market strongly supports the move, with Kansas City attracting 84% of spread tickets and 90% of the money.
Injury Impact: Miami's offensive health remains important because an already difficult matchup becomes considerably tougher if the Dolphins enter short-handed at a premium skill position or along the offensive line. Kansas City's personnel situation should also be monitored through the first official practice reports.
Betting Takeaway: The market and betting action are aligned. Anyone holding Chiefs -7.5 has considerable line value compared with the current -11.5.
Panthers at Browns: Carolina Approaches Three
Lookahead: Panthers -1.5 | Total 39.5
Current: Panthers -2.5 | Total 42.5
Movement: CAR +1.0 | Total +3.0
DK Spread Split: Panthers 86% bets | 97% money
Carolina has strengthened slightly as a road favorite, but the bigger adjustment has occurred on the total, which has climbed three points.
The betting splits are extremely one-sided. Carolina is receiving 86% of spread tickets and 97% of the handle.
Injury Impact: Jonathan Brooks' groin injury is the primary Carolina skill-position situation to monitor.
Betting Takeaway: Carolina has one of the strongest ticket-and-money profiles of Week 3. The critical number is three. A move from -2.5 to -3 would be much more meaningful than the previous one-point adjustment.
Titans at Giants: Monday Night Creates Major Injury Uncertainty
Lookahead: Giants -3 | Total 44.5
Current: Giants -2.5 | Total 42.5
Movement: NYG +3.0 | Total -2.0
DK Spread Split: Giants 60% bets | 44% money
New York's move from -3 to -6 was already one of Week 3's largest adjustments. Monday night's 28-6 loss to the Rams then introduced a completely different set of variables.
Quarterback Jaxson Dart injured his knee on the opening possession and did not return. It was reported Wednesday morning that he would miss the remainder of the season. Malik Nabers suffered a shoulder injury but was able to return. Left tackle Andrew Thomas left with a groin injury, while edge rusher Brian Burns suffered a low-ankle injury.
Injury Impact: Dart is a 9.5/10 betting-impact situation because of the quarterback downgrade to Jameis Winston. Nabers rates 8.5/10, while Thomas and Burns are approximately 8.0/10 because of their importance to pass protection and the Giants' pass rush.
Four important injuries on one team make this arguably Week 3's most volatile Tuesday handicap.
Betting Takeaway: Early Giants bettors aren't haven't had their value completely nuked even despite the Dart injury. This will be one of the more interesting lines to track as we get to the weekend.
Patriots at Jaguars: Jacksonville Flips the Favorite
Lookahead: Jaguars +1.5 | Total 45.5
Current: Jaguars -3 | Total 45.5
Movement: JAX +4.5 | Total 0.0
DK Spread Split: Jaguars 34% bets | 51% money
Jacksonville has undergone one of Week 3's most dramatic transformations, moving from a home underdog to a three-point favorite.
The 4.5-point swing is even more interesting because the total hasn't changed.
Injury Impact: Brian Thomas Jr.'s shoulder remains the most important Jacksonville skill-position issue to monitor. New England's receiving corps also remains an important component of the matchup.
Betting Takeaway: Only 34% of spread tickets are on Jacksonville, yet the Jaguars have 51% of the money and have moved 4.5 points. That's one of the week's most interesting combinations of line movement and betting splits.
Chargers at Bills: Buffalo Moves From Three to Seven
Lookahead: Bills -3 | Total 48.5
Current: Bills -7 | Total 50.5
Movement: BUF +4.0 | Total +2.0
DK Spread Split: Bills 89% bets | 97% money
Buffalo has moved from the key number of three all the way to seven, while the total has climbed two points.
That combination indicates significantly stronger expectations for Buffalo than the early market carried.
Injury Impact: DJ Moore's AC joint injury is an important Buffalo receiving situation to monitor, while Ladd McConkey's rib issue matters for Los Angeles. Both affect explosive passing potential in a game carrying one of Week 3's highest totals.
Betting Takeaway: Everything is pointing toward Buffalo: the spread, total and betting splits. Bills -3 was an outstanding early number. At -7, much of that value has disappeared.
Jets at Lions: Detroit Loses Three Points Despite Heavy Support
Lookahead: Lions -9.5 | Total 45.5
Current: Lions -6.5 | Total 48.5
Movement: NYJ +3.0 | Total +3.0
DK Spread Split: Lions 72% bets | 89% money
Detroit remains a substantial favorite, but its advantage has fallen three points while the total has increased by the same amount.
That's an unusual combination because the market is simultaneously narrowing the expected margin and increasing the scoring projection.
Injury Impact: Detroit's offensive-line health deserves attention because protection and rushing efficiency become particularly important when laying nearly a touchdown. The Jets' offensive personnel will also determine whether the higher total continues to hold.
Betting Takeaway: Current action strongly favors Detroit, but the larger market move has gone toward New York. Early Jets +9.5 bettors have substantial line value.
Texans at Colts: Houston Money Far Outpaces Tickets
Lookahead: Texans -1.5 | Total 45.5
Current: Texans -2.5 | Total 43.5
Movement: HOU +1.0 | Total -2.0
DK Spread Split: Texans 53% bets | 94% money
Houston has moved one point toward the key number of three while the total has fallen two points.
The betting splits are much more dramatic than the spread move. Houston has only 53% of the wagers but 94% of the money.
Injury Impact: Nico Collins is the most important Houston skill-position player to monitor. Indianapolis is expected to be without vertical threat Alec Pierce because of his heel injury. Pierce's absence reduces the Colts' downfield element and is particularly relevant with the total already declining.
Betting Takeaway: Houston's 53% bets/94% money split is one of the biggest ticket-to-handle discrepancies of Week 3. Watch whether that larger money eventually pushes the Texans through -3.
Seahawks at Commanders: Quarterback Injury Drives Massive Adjustment
Lookahead: Seahawks -3.5 | Total 46.5
Current: Seahawks -7 | Total 40.5
Movement: SEA +3.5 | Total -6.0
DK Spread Split: Seahawks 82% bets | 97% money
This is the most dramatic combination of spread and total movement on the Week 3 board.
Seattle has climbed from -3.5 to a full touchdown favorite while the total has collapsed six points.
Injury Impact: Jayden Daniels' elbow injury is a 10/10 betting-impact absence and the primary reason this game deserves special attention. Marcus Mariota is expected to take over the Washington offense. Seattle's Sam Darnold situation also needs monitoring, although his outlook has been improving.
Washington linebacker Frankie Luvu adds another defensive injury concern.
Betting Takeaway: The market is telling a clear story: Seattle up, Washington offense down. The Seahawks are receiving 82% of the tickets and 97% of the money. Early Seattle -3.5 bettors captured enormous value compared with -7.
Bengals at Steelers: Cincinnati Moves Through Three
Lookahead: Bengals -1.5 | Total 46.5
Current: Bengals -3.5 | Total 42.5
Movement: CIN +2.0 | Total -4.0
DK Spread Split: Bengals 87% bets | 98% money
Cincinnati has moved from a short road favorite to -3.5, crossing through the most important number in NFL spread betting.
The total has simultaneously fallen four points.
Injury Impact: Pittsburgh's backfield deserves attention with Rico Dowdle dealing with a toe issue. While an individual running back generally doesn't account for multiple spread points, diminished backfield depth matters more in a game whose total has already dropped substantially.
Betting Takeaway: Cincinnati has one of the week's strongest consensus profiles, attracting 87% of tickets and 98% of the money. Bengals -1.5 bettors are holding an excellent number.
Cardinals at 49ers: Arizona Draws Significant Market Respect
Lookahead: 49ers -11.5 | Total 46.5
Current: 49ers -8.5 | Total 47.5
Movement: ARI +3.0 | Total +1.0
DK Spread Split: 49ers 81% bets | 86% money
San Francisco remains a large favorite, but the market has removed three points from its expected advantage.
What's particularly interesting is that current DraftKings action still strongly favors the 49ers.
Injury Impact: Arizona remains without James Conner, a meaningful loss to its rushing and short-yardage offense. Mike Evans' hip situation is the major San Francisco receiving injury we're monitoring and carries approximately an 8.5/10 impact score because of his downfield and red-zone role.
Betting Takeaway: Early Cardinals +11.5 bettors captured excellent value. The movement toward Arizona despite current betting action favoring San Francisco creates an interesting market disagreement.
Vikings at Buccaneers: Minnesota Flips the Favorite
Lookahead: Vikings +1.5 | Total 44.5
Current: Vikings -1.5 | Total 42.5
Movement: MIN +3.0 | Total -2.0
DK Spread Split: Vikings 60% bets | 51% money
Minnesota has crossed through zero and gone from a short road underdog to a short favorite.
The total has simultaneously fallen two points.
Injury Impact: Kyler Murray clearing concussion protocol is a major positive development and carries approximately a 9.5/10 impact compared with Minnesota being forced to use its backup quarterback.
Jordan Mason is unavailable after thumb surgery, however, increasing the importance of the remaining Minnesota backfield.
Betting Takeaway: The favorite flip is much more dramatic than the current betting splits. Minnesota has 60% of tickets but only 51% of the money, meaning the handle is almost evenly divided.
Raiders at Saints: Bowers Return Could Change Las Vegas Offense
Lookahead: Saints -3.5 | Total 42.5
Current: Saints -3 | Total 43.5
Movement: LV +0.5 | Total +1.0
DK Spread Split: Saints 63% bets | 82% money
New Orleans has moved from -3.5 to exactly three while the total has climbed a point.
The half-point spread adjustment looks small, but crossing onto the key number makes it more meaningful.
Injury Impact: Brock Bowers is one of the most important Week 3 players to monitor. He's targeting a return after his knee/meniscus issue and carries an 8.5/10 impact score because of his target share and importance to the Raiders' passing attack.
Alvin Kamara's knee situation is the major New Orleans skill-position concern.
Betting Takeaway: New Orleans is receiving 63% of the tickets and 82% of the money despite the spread moving slightly toward Las Vegas. Raiders +3.5 bettors captured valuable positioning around the key number.
Ravens at Cowboys: Baltimore Moves Onto Three
Lookahead: Ravens -2.5 | Total 51.5
Current: Ravens -3 | Total 52.5
Movement: BAL +0.5 | Total +1.0
DK Spread Split: Ravens 52% bets | 71% money
Baltimore has moved only half a point, but that half point matters because it takes the Ravens from -2.5 to -3.
The total has also climbed to 52.5, making this one of Week 3's highest-scoring projected games.
Injury Impact: Zay Flowers' hamstring situation is Baltimore's most important offensive injury to monitor and carries approximately an 8.0/10 impact. Dallas has defensive concerns involving Malik Hooker and DeMarvion Overshown that become more significant against Baltimore's offense.
Betting Takeaway: Ticket count is almost even, but Baltimore has 71% of the money. Ravens -2.5 bettors captured the preferable side of the key number.
Rams at Broncos: Puka Nacua Becomes the Key Variable
Lookahead: Rams -3 | Total 45.5
Current: Rams -2.5 | Total 45.5
Movement: DEN +0.5 | Total 0.0
DK Spread Split: Rams 73% bets | 53% money
Los Angeles has moved off the key number of three despite receiving nearly three-quarters of DraftKings spread tickets.
The handle is much more balanced, however, with only 53% of the money backing the Rams.
Injury Impact: Puka Nacua was inactive Monday night because of his hip injury, making his Week 3 availability the biggest offensive variable in this matchup. He carries approximately a 9.0/10 impact score because of his target volume and importance to the Rams' passing game.
Denver is also monitoring J.K. Dobbins' hamstring injury.
Betting Takeaway: Early Denver +3 bettors hold the valuable number. Puka's practice status could determine whether this remains Rams -2.5 or eventually moves farther toward Denver.
Eagles at Bears: Williams Injury Looms Over Monday Night
Lookahead: Eagles -1.5 | Total 46.5
Current: Eagles -4.5 | Total 44.5
Movement: PHI +3.0 | Total -2.0
DK Spread Split: Eagles 72% bets | 55% money
Philadelphia has moved from -1.5 to -3.5, crossing through the key number of three, while the total has fallen two points.
The movement is closely tied to uncertainty surrounding Chicago's offense.
Injury Impact: Caleb Williams' hamstring injury is a 10/10 betting-impact situation. If Williams can't play, the quarterback downgrade would affect both Chicago's expected scoring and Philadelphia's spread.
Philadelphia also has an important injury of its own with Dallas Goedert dealing with an MCL sprain. Goedert rates approximately 8.0/10, although a tight end absence carries nowhere near the market impact of a starting quarterback.
Betting Takeaway: Eagles -1.5 bettors captured one of Week 3's better early numbers. Philadelphia has moved through three, but the betting splits provide an interesting wrinkle: the Eagles have 72% of tickets but only 55% of the money. Chicago is attracting a disproportionate amount of handle relative to its ticket count.
