The Texans cut Nall Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
He was the Texans' No. 3 QB, and he probably would not have seen any playing time with Matt Schaub now healthy.

Nall should be the No. 2 quarterback for the Bills this season. He was expected to compete for the starting job last year, but injured his hamstring in camp and spent the season as the No. 3 man. The Bills are now committed to J.P. Losman, and Nall should only see action if Losman goes down. Nall has not seen action since 2004 but has plenty of experience as a backup man and a good understanding of the offense. Promising roookie Trent Edwards will push him, but we think Nall will win the top backup job, at least for this season.
The Bills signed Nall because they liked the raw skills he possesses, even if he almost never saw the field behind Brett Favre. The Bills are also looking for a three-way competition to spur up their level of performance at quarterback with the hope that one of them takes off. Nall, 27, has the least game experience between him, Kelly Holcomb and J.P. Losman. He has shown some potential during his stint as Favre's backup for the Packers in 2004. During that time, he threw for 314 yards, four touchdowns and sustained a 139.4 QB rating. Still, most of this playing time came in games that were out of reach, against second-string defenses, and he doesn't have much of a track record even dating back to college. He had a bit of a tough time grasping the new offense in early minicamps, so it's looking like he'll start the season as the #3 guy, looking to work his way up if the other two crap out.
Nall has spent a number of seasons buried on the QB depth chart in Green Bay and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better. He'll be battling for the third string spot again this year.
