Starks, who was brought in on a two-year deal, is expected to lock down one of the starting defensive end spots, or at least be at the forefront of the rotation. His durability has been commendable over the years, as Starks has missed just three games since his rookie campaign back in 2004.
Starks has his best season to date in 2013 with four sacks and 49 tackles and there is little reason to believe he shouldn't at the very least equal those numbers once again this season. The Dolphins have one of the better defenses in the NFL and shouldn't be overlooked come draft time.
Starks is playing under the franchise tag for this and to put it nicely is none to happy about it. He will certainly have plenty of incentive to have a big season, but will also be 30 years of age in December. The switch to a 4-3 defense could be big for Starks if the Dolphins can find a defensive end opposite Cameron Wake to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. This would more than likely mean Starks wouldn't face many double teams.
Starks likely will be under the radar after a stint in the 3-4 with the Dolphins, but he should turn out to be a decent bargain as an IDP backup as the team returns to a 4-3 alignment, which better suits his skill set as an athletic disruptor. A Pro Bowl selection in 2010, Starks finished the 2009 season with 56 tackles (42 solo) and seven sacks, and he should approach similar territory in 2012 as offensive lines primarily concern themselves with defensive end Cameron Wake on the outside.
Due to injuries along the defensive line last season Starks was played more defensive end than defensive tackle. It looks like he will remain there this season as he is the backup to one of those injured players, Jared Odrick at right defensive end.
Most defensive tackles are expected to occupy blockers, plug holes and let the DEs and LBs make plays. Starks seems to take matters into his own hands a lot more often than the average DT. Starks took over for an aging Jason Ferguson last season and racked up career highs of 56 tackles and seven sacks. He should be a fair play in leagues that require a defensive lineman — and an excellent play in leagues that require an actual DT.
Starks recent arrest for aggravated battery of a police officer certainly hasn't helped his case to be a starting defensive lineman for the Dolphins.
Starks will be utilized as a backup defensive tackle.
Starks is expected to be the starting left defensive tackle for the Titans. He played in all 16 games last season with eight starts. He had 56 tackles, three sacks, career-high 13 quarterback pressures, career-high five tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries. At just 23, he is one of the youngest players on the team, but has already played in 46 games for the Titans, starting 32.
Starks will play left tackle for the Titans defense in 2006.
Starks will back up Albert Haynesworth at defensive tackle in 2005.
Starks will back up Albert Haynesworth at left defensive tackle and will likely see very little action this year.
