Backup tight end who's currently No. 3 or No. 4 on the depth chart. Nothing to see here.
Klopfenstein's days in St. Louis look to be coming to an end as both Billy Bajema and Daniel Fells have pushed by him on the depth chart behind starter Randy McMichael.
With Randy McMichael and new arrival Anthony Becht both proving to have superior game Klopfenstein will have to step up huge in order to justify the club keeping three tight ends.
The Rams' starting tight end in 2006 will most likely lose his starting job to newcomer Randy McMichael but is expected to retain the #2 job despite competition from Dominique Byrd and Aaron Walker.
The Rams selected Klopfenstein in the second round (Colorado) to replace last year's starter Brandon Manumaleuna, and Joe didn't disappoint, winning the job in mini-camps and keeping it through the preseason. St. Louis was last in the league with just 7.9 percent of the team’s completions accounted for by its tight ends, but that percentage should increase under new head coach Scott Linehan. If Klopfenstein can maintain his starting status through the year he could prove to be a decent lower tier fantasy tight end commodity getting 45-55 catches and 2-4 touchdowns in 2006.
