San Diego cut Bigby on Friday, NFL.com's Kareem Copeland reports.
ANALYSIS
Bigby was a stopgap acquisition for San Diego all along, so the fact that he's gone after one year is not surprising. Bigby is an aggressive hitter who can hold his own with downhill tasks, but he's a liability in most other regards. He should land as a backup strong safety somewhere so long as he shows the ability to contribute on special teams. Brandon Taylor and Darrell Stuckey figure to fight for the snaps that went to Bigby last year.

Coaches are going to give Bigby a chance to prove he still has some gas in the tank despite the fact that the Chargers drafted Brandon Taylor with expecting to eventually give him the starting job. At the very least, the seven year veteran will be available to hold the fort down until the rookie is ready to take the reigns.
Bigby started 13 games at safety in 2009, but will be pushed by third round pick Morgan Burnett for playing time.
Bigby exploded onto the IDP leaderboard with his 84-tackle, five-interception, three-forced fumble 2007 season, showing a rare combination of speed and tackling ability. His encore was a big disappointment, though. Hit by the injury bug that decimated the Packers defense, Bigby was limited to just seven games before landing on injured reserve. He signed a one-year tender offer to return in 2009 as part of a revamped Packers D and, if healthy, should be worth a roster spot in IDP leagues for his big-play ability alone.
Bigby is a punishing tackler and has a nose for big plays. He notched 84 tackles, five interceptions and three forced fumbles last season, his first as a starter. His speed and Green Bay's all-around good defense largely made up for Bigby's flaws in coverage. His four pass interference calls tied for the league lead, and he tied for third with three personal fouls. Bigby got better as the year went on, though, recording four interceptions in the final five weeks. If he can learn to keep his penalties in check, Bigby has all of the tools to be an elite safety.
