Abdullah announced his retirement Monday on his personal Instagram account.
ANALYSIS
The safety saw his role diminish last season on the Chiefs, as he accrued only 29 tackles over 11 games while sitting out five contests with a concussion. The 30-year-old played seven seasons in the league for the Vikings and Chiefs, recording six interceptions, 289 tackles, and 2.5 sacks for his career.

Abdullah posted 71 tackles (58 solo) in his second campaign with the Chiefs last season. He could be in line to retain a starting safety spot again in 2015, but the offseason addition of Tyvon Branch could throw a wrench into things.
Abdullah re-signed with the Chiefs this offseason after performing well in a limited role last year. With the Chiefs' secondary in flux after the departure of Kendrick Lewis, Abdullah finds himself in a prime spot to take over as the starting free safety opposite Eric Berry in 2014. If he can hold on to that role, Abdullah could emerge as a sleeper in IDP leagues.
As a practicing Muslim, Abdullah sat out the 2012 season to make a Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. Prior to taking the year off he played four seasons in Minnesota at both safety positions. If he can regain the form he displayed in 2010 when he registered 75 total tackles and three interceptions, Abdullah could challenge Kendrick Lewis for playing time opposite Eric Berry.
Abdullah took over the strong safety role last season and should return as the starter. The strong safety has never had high tackle totals in Minnesota's cover-2 defense and Abdullah doesn't appear to have the playmaking ability (3 INTs) that will make him a strong IDP option.
Expected to be a backup safety after recording 18 tackles in that role last season.
