ANALYSIS
Boobie was one of the team's better locker room guys and the fans will certainly miss his colorful personality, but Karlos Williams and Mike Gillislee easily passed him on the depth chart in 2015. Dixon had plenty of opportunity as the running back corps was decimated with injuries, but he managed just 2.1 yards per carry, and that's for a team that led the league in rushing. He'll likely sign elsewhere in a depth spot, perhaps as a No. 3 or No. 4 guy.

After spending his first four seasons in San Francisco, Dixon joined Buffalo ahead of last season and finished the campaign as the Bills’ second-leading rusher. In fact, Dixon’s 432 yards on 105 carries resulted in a career-best 4.1 yards per attempt, and the man affectionately known as “Boobie” also scored twice. Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Dixon figures to compete for the Bills’ second-string tailback position behind starter LeSean McCoy. However, with the likes of rookie fifth-rounder Karlos Williams, as well as Bryce Brown, also vying for touches, Dixon may find it hard to carve out a big enough role to warrant fantasy ownership in most formats.
Dixon signed with the Bills after spending his first four seasons in San Francisco as a solid special teams player and occassional goal-line back. His role should be very similar in Buffalo with C.J. Spiller, Fred Jackson and Bryce Brown hogging all of the carries in the run game.
Dixon will compete for a back-up running back job but should really make the team because of his special teams play and his ability to mentor young players. He has averaged fewer than 30 carries and 90 yards in each of his last two seasons and shouldn't be counted on for much more heading into 2013.
Dixon split backup duties with Brian Westbrook last year, but when Frank Gore went down with a season-ending hip injury, the 31-year-old veteran outplayed him. Dixon got just 3.4 YPC, and his running style is best described as plodding. Westbrook isn’t going to return to San Francisco, but the team drafted Kendall Hunter in the fourth round, and GM Trent Baalke has already declared him the No. 2 back, rendering Dixon nothing more than San Francisco’s RB3.
Dixon showed up to offseason OTA workouts slightly out of shape and missed practice time due to a hamstring injury. He didn't give off the best first impression, but he's still expected to battle with Glen Coffee for the number two running back job during training camp. Even if Dixon is relegated to third-string, he could end up in the mix for short-yardage carries.
