Alan Ball

Signed to a one-year, $3 million contract during the offseason, Ball gives some needed veteran depth and experience to a mostly youthful crop of cornerbacks. The 30-year-old has played mostly as a reserve over parts of eight NFL seasons with the Cowboys, Texans, and Jaguars, starting 44 of 93 games. Despite his lack of production, Ball was able to unseat two-time Pro Bowler Tim Jennings at one of the starting corner spots in training camp, with his 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame making him a better fit for coordinator Vic Fangio’s press-coverage scheme than the undersized Jennings.
