The Falcons released Bailey on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The move frees up $4.5 million in salary cap space for the Falcons. In his two seasons with the team, Bailey tallied 41 tackles (22 solo) and 2.5 sacks through his 31 games. The 31-year-old, who entered the NFL in 2011 after being made a third-round draft pick by Kansas City, should catch on elsewhere as a rotational defensive lineman.

Bailey stepped into a prominent role during his debut campaign with the Falcons, suiting up for 15 games and starting five times for Atlanta's 22nd-ranked scoring defense. The 31-year-old did not make a huge statistical impact during those appearances, however, collecting just one sack and two QB hits. The Falcons were able to make one or two notable additions elsewhere to the front seven over the offseason, but expect Bailey to continue being heavily utilized in the defensive end rotation during 2020.
Bailey has been a stalwart on the Chiefs' defensive line for most of his career, racking up 20-plus tackles for the fourth time in the last five seasons in 2017. He's slated to once again serve as the starting right defensive end for the club this season.
The 27-year-old defensive end notched 4.5 sacks (second-highest total) in 2015, adding two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He’s locked in on the defensive line but his stats don’t necessarily translate to a ton of fantasy value.
Posted career-highs in tackles (41 total, 27 solo) and sacks (five) in 2014, and should serve in a similar role for the Chiefs at defensive end again in 2015.
The 2011 third-rounder appeared in 15 games last season, starting three, recording 30 tackles and one sack in the process. He's a candidate to compete for the Chiefs' starting left defensive end slot.
A third round selection in the 2011 draft, Bailey has seen very limited action in his first two seasons. A new coaching staff could be just what he needs though, as Bailey offers quality strength and athleticism to a defensive line that needs someone to emerge as a disruptive presence. A strong training camp could earn him playing time in a mostly unproven rotation.
Bailey will compete for playing time behind Tyson Jackson at left defensive end in the team's base 3-4 defense. He will serve primarily as a situational pass rusher.
Bailey will be a reserve defensive end in his rookie season, playing behind Tyson Jackson in the Chiefs' 3-4 base defense. He does bring impressive athletic abilities to the table as a pass rusher, but he likely won't receive enough playing time to make a significant impact.
