2023 Fantasy Outlook
Traded yet again, Cooks offers serious rebound potential after sinking to 699 yards in 13 games last season in a dismal Houston offense. He cleared 1,000 yards in each of his first two years with the Texans, a feat he's accomplished six times total and for four teams, though without ever exceeding 1,204. There's appeal to his new role as the No. 2 wide receiver in an offense that lost TE Dalton Schultz and RB Ezekiel Elliott this spring, but the Cowboys' switch from Kellen Moore to Brian Schottenheimer in the OC role does hint at more of an emphasis on the run game even with Elliott out the door. Cooks turns 30 in September and can still get downfield in a hurry, so it's possible Schottenheimer keeps the offense relatively aggressive to take advantage of the threat provided by Cooks, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. RANKS
Scores eight TDs in 2023
Cooks caught 54 of 81 targets for 657 yards and eight touchdowns over 16 regular-season games in 2023. He added 35 rushing yards on five carries.
ANALYSIS
The veteran speedster was brought in last offseason to provide more consistent support in the passing game for CeeDee Lamb, but Cooks was basically invisible through his first month as a Cowboy. Cooks' production began to pick up once he scored his first TD of the season Week 6 against the Chargers, but the 30-year-old still finished the campaign with his lowest yardage total over a 16-game slate. Despite that fact, his eight scores were his most since 2016. Cooks will get a $3 million bonus if he's still on the roster March 17, so he's a candidate to be cut before then, but his $8 million salary for 2024 is reasonable given his role.

Could play through injury Sunday
Cooks, who's listed as questionable for Sunday's Week 2 game against the Jets due to an MCL sprain, could conceivably play despite not having practiced this week, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cooks' MCL sprain is described as "slight" by Archer, and team owner Jerry Jones stated on his radio appearance this week the veteran receiver doesn't require practice reps in order to suit up against New York. The team will still make another assessment of Cooks following a Saturday walk-through practice, and Archer also notes multiple sources informed him the offseason acquisition had a productive rehab session Thursday.

All things considered, 2021 might've been the most impressive of Cooks' six 1,000-yard
seasons. He barely got there, even with a career-high 134 targets, but it's hard to blame him
given that he caught passes from Davis Mills and Tyrod Taylor in an offense with no other
proven weapons. Prior to last year, Cooks had played with Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Jared Goff
and Deshaun Watson, landing in the range of 114-129 targets five times in six years. He was
slightly above that last season, missing only one game and ultimately accounting for 28.6
percent of Houston's receiving yards. Cooks exited Week 18 with a knee injury, but there's been no report of surgery amidst a fairly quiet offseason for the Texans. The team moved Watson for
a haul of draft picks, with hopes for 2022 mostly relying on internal development and whatever
the rookie class can provide. It's a situation that makes Cooks the far-and-away No. 1 receiver,
again, though he'd ideally be a high-end No. 2 on a better team. And while the Texans are
unlikely to be good this season, Mills showed enough in 2021 to create some hope for a
competent passing game under new OC Pep Hamilton. Cooks turns 29 in September, and he
doesn't seem to have lost much of his 4.33 speed as he enters Year 9 in the NFL.
