Antoine Cason: (Foot) To Miss Entire 2015 Season

Cason, a free agent, will miss the entire 2015 season after undergoing surgery on his right foot Tuesday, ESPN.com reports. "Had surgery this morning to fix an ongoing problem," Cason wrote on Instagram.

ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old started 11 games for the Panthers last year, recording 58 tackles, four forced fumbles and two interceptions before being released after Week 13. He was then picked up by the Ravens and played in two games, failing to record any stats in either contest.

Cason is expected to assume one of Carolina's starting cornerback positions this season. A former first-round selection, Cason played sparingly for the Cardinals last year, but averaged 61 tackles and made 12 interceptions for the Chargers over his first five seasons.

Cason is expected to slide into the starting cornerback role opposite Patrick Peterson for the Cardinals after starting the last three seasons for the Chargers.

Cason had a very up and down season in 2011 that even included a brief benching after a particularly terrible performance against the Jets. But by year's end, Cason had regained his starting role and ended the year with 53 tackles and two interceptions.

Cason will start at one corner spot opposite Quentin Jammer. Cason had a solid season in 2010. He started 15 games and tallied 67 tackles with 4 interceptions. He is also a candidate to be involved in the return game this year, so that could be a bonus.

Cason was something of a disappointment in 2009 as he logged only two interceptions and three passes defensed on the season and actually lost his nickel back role to Steve Gregory mid season. However, the Bolts will be looking to Cason to rebound in 2010 as they are expecting him to replace Antonio Cromartie in the starting lineup.

Cason managed to lock down the nickel cornerback position as a rookie in 2008, and he did not disappoint. He recorded 74 tackles, made two interceptions, and even returned one 59 yards for a touchdown. Look for more of the same as Cason continues to serve as the top nickel corner on the team.

Cason was a ball-hawking shut down corner at Arizona and is expected to immediately battle Cletis Gordon and Paul Oliver for starting nickel back duties.
