ANALYSIS
The veteran wideout finished the season on IR and did not play a single snap for the Steelers prior to his release. It's unclear at this point if a team will take a flier on the oft-injured Nelson given that he's played in all of 18 games over the past three seasons, but his 6-foot-5 frame could be intriguing enough for a team to give him a shot in training camp.

Although he doesn't bring much else to the table, Nelson's skinny 6-5 frame makes him a decent red zone target, and the Jets' depth chart is unsettled behind free agent signee Eric Decker. Nelson isn't likely to emerge with a lot of production, but he could fall into decent numbers if no one else steps up.
A torn ACL ended Nelson's 2012 season after just one game, but the Browns were apparently confident the 26-year-old wideout can get back to being a serviceable NFL receiver, as they signed him to a one-year deal in the offseason. Nelson had his moments in Buffalo, hauling in 94 receptions for 1,042 yards and six touchdowns in 32 games, but it's hard to see him becoming a fantasy factor in 2013, considering the mediocre quality of the Browns' signal callers.
Nelson had a productive second season – at least as far as the counting stats are concerned – 61 catches, 658 yards and five scores isn’t bad for a second-year undrafted free agent on a run-first team. But Nelson averaged just 6.7 YPT and 10.8 YPC and had just seven catches of 20 yards or more on 98 targets. At 6-5, 220, Nelson has excellent red-zone size and did see 11 looks from inside the 10 (tied for 3rd with Calvin Johnson), so he’s got some scoring upside should he retain his role as the slot man in the offense.
Nelson, who finished his rookie season with a 31/353/3 line, added 10 to 15 pounds to his frame to get up to 220 in the offseason in an effort to make himself tougher to bring down after catches and to stay healthier all season. The Bills got a steal when they picked up Nelson as an undrafted free agent last season, though be careful in projecting too much of a production increase for 2011, as there are a lot of mouths to feed among this receiving corps, even following the Lee Evans trade. And while the Bills didn't draft a receiver, 2010 fourth-rounder Marcus Easley, who was out all last season, will be in the mix as well, and also Buster Davis and Brad Smith (in certain packages) could factor in as well. Nelson's value is if he becomes the clear-cut No. 2, with some hidden value if he wins the No. 4 spot and then injuries strike again.
Undrafted free agent from the University of Florida who's probably hoping just to make the team.
