Knee - Meniscus
February 21, 2018
Floyd (knee) is still awaiting a settlement of the grievance he filed last September to recoup the $6.76 million he was owed for the 2017 season, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The Vikings exercised Floyd's fifth-year team option last April, despite the defensive end having undergone arthroscopic surgery to repair his meniscus in September 2016. During the operation, a nerve in his right knee was disrupted, which stymied his recovery and prevented him from playing in 2017. Rather than placing Floyd on injured reserve, Minnesota stashed him on the reserve/Non-Football Injury list for the entire 2017 season, a designation that allowed the Vikings to pay the defensive tackle an amount of their choosing rather than the $6.76 million salary figure. Floyd contends that his knee injury shouldn't have been classified as a non-football injury and that he should have been placed on IR, which would have guaranteed him the full salary. It remains to be seen when a resolution to the contract squabble will come forth, but no matter how the situation plays out, it's quite likely that Floyd's NFL career is over due to the nerve damage in his right leg.

Floyd is recovering from nerve damage suffered after undergoing knee surgery in September and missed all of Minnesota's offseason program. It's not clear if he'll be able to participate in training camp, and his career looks to be in jeopardy. If healthy, Floyd is an impact player against the run.
Floyd's 2015 production was hampered due to a nagging knee injury that kept him out for three games, and left him at less than 100 percent for several others. He still managed to record 34 tackles and 2.5 sacks as a starting defensive tackle on a stout, young defense in Minnesota. He projects to have a similar role in 2016, but could see an improvement in tackle numbers given he's able to stay healthy.
Floyd is a starting defensive tackle who has become an impact player against the run while improving as a pass rusher. Floyd nearly doubled his sack total last season with 4.5 sacks. It's possible he could take a big leap in his third season.
Floyd's rookie season was a mild disappointment as the 2013 first-round draft pick came off the bench and had just 19 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He'll be thrust into a starting role at defensive tackle this season with the many changes on Minnesota's defensive line. The Vikings will be counting on him as a key run stuffer who can also make an occasional impact as a pass rusher.
Minnesota got a steal in Floyd with the 23rd overall pick in this year's draft. He may contend to start in Week 1 and could provide immediate production as a DL4 upside pick in most IDP leagues.
