Anthony Denham

Denham has two years of experience within the Texans’ system, but mostly as a member of the practice squad or a game-day inactive. The tight end position as received precious few targets since Bill O’Brien became the team’s head coach, so it would take Denham an off-the-charts preseason to vault him above Ryan Griffin or C.J. Fiedorowicz. If the Texans involve their tight ends more in the passing attack, it’s highly unlikely Denham will be a beneficiary of that. His primary role is that of an insurance fill-in whose main duties will be as a blocker.

Denham, an undrafted free agent who signed with Houston in 2014, spent most of the season on the Texans' practice squad before getting signed to the roster in December when an ankle injury shelved Garrett Graham. His situation hadn't changed much in training camp as the same group of tight ends are still on the roster. He suffered a shoulder injury during preseason Week 3 leading the Texans to waive/injure him. He was placed on injured reserve.

Denham is a hybrid wideout/tight end from Utah, but is focusing solely on tight end with the Texans. Houston was pretty deep at that position, so Denham was not expected to stick with the roster. He was eventually released as part of the final cut and signed to the practice squad. He has the size to box out defenders in one-on-one situations, but needs to get better at blocking and playing with his hand down.
