2018 Fantasy Outlook
Drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft, Chung left the team after the 2012 season via free agency, signing a three-year, $10 million with the Eagles. After being cut by Philadelphia following just one season, Chung resurfaced with the Patriots and has been a mainstay of the team's defense since then. The 30-year-old remains under contract with New England through 2020 and is in line to retain his status as the team's starting strong safety next year, working in tandem with free safety Devin McCourty. Chung finished the 2017 regular season with 84 tackles and a pick in 16 games, numbers that keep him on the IDP radar in deeper formats. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Chung suffered a concussion in Week 2's matchup against the Jaguars. The 31-year-old will work to clear the league's concussion protocol in time to suit up against Detroit on Sunday, but if Chung were to miss any time Duron Harmon would serve as New England's starting strong safety.

Chung logged 91 tackles and a pick over the course of 16 games last season. The upcoming 29-year-old was drafted 34th overall by the Patriots in 2009. He left the team as a free agent to spend the 2013 season with the Eagles, but since his return to New England in 2014, he's remained a mainstay in the team's secondary, now serving as the Patriots' starting strong safety.
Chung is set to reprise his role as a starter for the Patriots at the strong safety position this season. The 28-year-old has re-emerged as a key cog in the team's defense, often playing in the box and providing run support. In the process, Chung has carved out a degree of IDP relevance, having recorded 85 tackles and a forced fumble over 15 games for the team in 2015.
After spending just one season with the Eagles, Chung returned to the Patriots in 2014, re-emerging as a starter at strong safety, while racking up 85 tackles. It's a role he'll reprise this season and one that carries with it fantasy utility in deeper formats.
Returns to the Patriots after a season with the Eagles in which he recorded 59 tackles in 12 games. He'll boost the Patriots' depth at safety in the wake of Steve Gregory's departure this offseason.
Chung begins a new era in Philadelphia coming over from New England in free agency. Chung will start at strong safety, part of a secondary of four new faces.
Chung is a former Oregon safety and second-round pick who just can't seem to stay healthy, but posts big IDP numbers when he does manage to stay on the field. He has 158 tackles (109 solo) and four interceptions in his last 22 games, but those games are unfortunately spread over a two-year span, with two games missed in 2010 and eight missed last season. Those stats from the last two years would project to 115 tackles (79 solo) and three interceptions over 16 games. Since IDP production is so volatile and generally replaceable, gambling on Chung's upside is justifiable in an IDP league of any size, even if you only get about 10 games out of him.
Chung enjoyed an impressive breakout season in 2010, one that should earn him a 16-game starting role and the distinction of being one of the league’s most productive safeties in 2011. The former Oregon star is a good all-around athlete, but his skill set clearly resembles that of the prototypical strong safety. Indeed, with 94 tackles (72 solo) in just 14 games last year, Chung more than lived up to that expectation, though it would be unfair to say he was one dimensional. His three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, were a nice supplement to his gaudy tackle numbers. He should rarely leave the field for New England in 2011.
Chung, who had 37 tackles and a pick as a rookie, could find himself on the fantasy radar in 2010 provided he can lock down the team's starting gig at strong safety this season, which is a distinct possibility.
The Pats have a way of unearthing players who may seem like reaches, but end up working out well, so we'll have to see if that knack continues now that Scott Pioli is no longer in the personal department. For now, Chung will follow James Sanders and Brandon Meriweather on the team's safety depth chart, but he has a chance to move up with his hard-hitting, fundamentally-sound ways.
