April 22, 2019
The Panthers announced Monday that Cockrell (leg) was cleared for their offseason training program, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Cockrell suffered a left tibia fracture in training camp last year and finally gained medical clearance. The 27-year-old was solid during his last full NFL season in 2017, racking up 50 tackles (37 solo) and three interceptions in 16 games. Expect Cockrell to be a full-go for training camp and compete for a spot in the Panthers secondary.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
After playing almost exclusively on special teams for Buffalo in 2014, Cockrell joined the Pittsburgh defensive backfield and proved he could be a playmaker. He enters training camp looking to win a starting position and, considering opposing offenses threw against them more than 62 percent of the time, could be a sleeper pick in IDP formats.
A fourth round pick in 2014, Cockrell got his feet wet in his rookie season but not much more. He looks to step up his game in year #2.
The Bills used a fourth round pick in the 2014 draft to nab Cockrell. He had a nice collegiate career at Duke and could spend some time on the field in obvious passing downs this season. The best value for Cockrell in fantasy is as a late round flier in dynasty IDP leagues since he will ultimately have an opportunity to prove himself and win more playing time.
