Helfet (undisclosed) was removed from the Active/Non-Football Injury list Monday after passing a physical, freelance NFL reporter Adam Caplan reports.
ANALYSIS
Helfet had been on the NFI list since late July, with the Raiders providing no specifics regarding the injury. The 28-year-old has a lot of ground to make up to earn playing time over the final two exhibitions and is unlikely to be a major factor in the Raiders' passing game if he survives roster cuts.

Helfet’s 2016 campaign landed before it took off as he broke his foot during the first week of the preseason. He began 2017 training camp on the Active/Non-Football Injury list and will have a tough time making the roster if he’s unable to return quickly. Jared Cook, Clive Walford and Lee Smith are all clearly above Helfet in the pecking order at tight end.
Helfet saw limited action throughout the 2015 season, as he notched 13 receptions for 130 yards in 14 games. His role isn't expected to change much due to Jimmy Graham and Luke Willson also in the tight-end ranks, but Helfet will likely still land a spot on the 53-man roster as a depth option at the position.
Helfet climbed up the depth chart last season thanks to injuries to Zach Miller and Anthony McCoy and stands a good chance of landing the third TE job this season. Miller is gone, but the oft-injured McCoy, who hasn't played since 2012, will be in the mix. Give Helfet the edge, though neither will see much work in the offense.
Luke Willson is the backup tight end, but when Anthony McCoy suffered a season-ending injury early in camp, it opened the door for Helfet to grab the last tight-end spot. He will be used more on special teams, though.
