Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Love's 2026 projection involves a range of outcomes greater than most other running backs in his ADP range, because the third-overall pick is an elite talent who nonetheless faces the classic potential fantasy pitfalls of a rookie fantasy RB -- namely, getting eased in rather than fed like a workhorse. At 6-feet, 212, Love is somewhat lacking in anchor, moreover, so he might not be a 300-carry back in the NFL anyway. Similarly, he was not a true workhorse at Notre Dame, where Jadarian Price's success off the bench allowed the Fighting Irish to limit Love to 199 and 163 carries the past two seasons. Given Love's high center of gravity, it would be reasonable if the Cardinals spared him the most punishing carries, including in some short-yardage situations, where free-agent addition Tyler Allgeier may be just as effective anyway. With Allgeier and James Conner both on Arizona's roster, at least for now, there's risk Love will trend closer to 15 touches per game than 20. The good news is he'll likely produce explosive per-touch numbers in the NFL, after averaging 6.9 YPC and scoring 40 total TDs over 28 games in his final two collegiate seasons. Boasting 4.36 speed, good hands and rare burst, Love is truly the total package, even offering pure power despite his relatively thin build. Long term, the only major question with Love is how many hits he can withstand. Short term, the big question is whether he'll be ready for Week 1 after suffering a high-ankle sprain Aug. 13 -- exactly one month before Arizona's season opener. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Love rushed 12 times for 22 yards and failed to bring in his only target in the Cardinals' 45-21 loss to the Lions on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Love's meager rushing yardage total actually led the Cardinals on the afternoon, and game script had essentially turned away from the run by halftime with Arizona already down 24-7 at that point. The rookie first-round pick was on the sideline by the final drive of the afternoon, and Love finished with a new career low in rushing yards. The downturn on the ground was particularly drastic when compared to Love's previous two games, when he'd gained 153 yards on 35 carries against the 49ers and Giants. Love and the Cardinals will have an uphill battle to bounce back in Week 6 as well, as Arizona pays a visit to the Rams next Sunday.

Coach optimistic about Week 1 availability
Love seems likely to play in Week 1, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur indicated Monday he was optimistic that the third overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft would be past his high-ankle sprain and available for the season opener. "I feel good [about his chances]," LaFleur said. Arizona held a walk-through Monday, and Love was moving around during the session. The running back has missed about four weeks of practice due to the injury, and if he doesn't gain clearance, Tyler Allgeier would lead the Cardinals' backfield into a Week 1 clash with the Chargers.
