Closer Watch

Henry Rodriguez failed to convert a save chance after entering Monday's game against the Phillies with a 2-0 lead. Prior to departing, Rodriguez walked a batter and gave up a run and a hit while recording just one out. Sean Burnett cleaned up the mess to earn his second save of the season, while Nats manager Davey Johnson said he would re-evaluate the closer situation after sleeping on it Monday night. A committee could be on the horizon, with Burnett potentially working in tandem with Tyler Clippard or another right-handed reliever in Washington.

Jose Arredondo picked up the first two outs in a save situation Monday night before walking back-to-back hitters and giving way to Sean Marshall for a one-out conversion. Aroldis Chapman was unavailable due to his recent workload and following his arrest early Monday after being clocked at 93 mph in his Mercedes while driving with a suspended license. Chapman should be available to pitch Tuesday, and has a court date scheduled for June 6.

Heath Bell allowed just one hit in 0.2 innings Sunday as he notched his fifth save of the season for the Marlins. He wasn't originally brought into the game in the ninth inning as the Marlins held a 5-1 lead, meaning it was not a save situation. However, Randy Choate allowed two unearned runs while securing just one out, causing the Marlins to bring in Bell. This is Bell's third straight scoreless appearance, and he may finally be back on track.

Recommended Pickup

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, BOS: Five years ago, Saltalamacchia was a centerpiece in the deal where the Braves traded for Mark Teixeira. Two years ago, Saltalamacchia was traded to the Red Sox for three minor leaguers, none of whom have made it past Double-A. That's how low Salty's value got in just three seasons. Saltalamacchia was given the opportunity to start for Boston last season, and hit fairly well. Now, in 2012, he is hitting very well for a catcher with a .282 batting average and is tied for second among catchers in both home runs (7) and slugging percentage (.583). Salty also provides a decent amount of RBI and runs. His value takes a slight hit in leagues that use OBP, and Saltalamacchia is making a case for being owned even in one-catcher shallow mixed leagues.

Other Recent Recommendations: Andy Dirks, Felipe Paulino, Welington Castillo, Yonder Alonso, Jarrod Dyson
