Closer Watch

Brewers - Say hello to your newest Brewers closer (maybe?), Jim Henderson. He collected saves Tuesday and Wednesday, though it's worth noting that John Axford pitched the eighth Wednesday with the Brew Crew behind, and so he was unavailable to close after they rallied to take the lead, Ron Roenicke might not want to argue with Henderson's results. The 29-year-old has never pitched in the majors before this year, but for what it's worth, he'd put up terrific numbers in the minors, saving 15 games with a 1.69 ERA and a 56:22 K:BB in 48 innings. You might as well add him, as Axford really hasn't quite righted the ship yet.

Athletics - The suddenly shaky Ryan Cook almost blew one Wednesday, giving up two runs with a three-run lead before holding on for his 12th save. Cook has now given up runs in five of his last seven outings, including blowing four of his last six save opportunities. And yet his ERA still sits at a comfortable 2.79 -- that's how good he had been before hitting the skids here. The A's will probably stick with him, and you should, too.

Recommended Pickup
Mike McKenry, C, PIT - Though he's still splitting starts with Rod Barajas, who can't hit his way out of a paper bag, McKenry has been a big part of what the Pirates have done on offense lately, and the results have been stunning. Not on anyone's fantasy radar entering the year, McKenry has hit .387 with eight homers and 22 RBI in his last 24 games (20 starts), and he's currently got an eight-game hitting streak going. But because he's a catcher (and because Barajas still inexplicably vamps starts from him), he's still widely available. Change that if you're in need behind the dish.
