Closer Watch

Padres – Huston Street will be back Friday, and not a moment too soon, as the Padres used five pitchers to piece the ninth inning together on Thursday. Anthony Bass was the final one, recording one out for his first career save.

Brewers – John Axford struck out the side for the save Thursday, a good sign, as he'd given up runs in two of his last three outings. He's never blowing saves these days, though.

Reds – Still no Aroldis Chapman on Thursday – Alfredo Simon got his first save of the year, giving up run over 1.1 innings. J.J. Hoover had recorded the last save for Cincy way back on last Wednesday. Aroldis should get back out there relatively soon, though, as he says he's feeling better.

Nationals – Save No. 3 for Drew Storen on Thursday, but Tyler Clippard had pitched in both ends of the doubleheader Wednesday, collecting a save and a loss. This situation is ever-so-slowly working itself out in Storen's direction.

Red Sox – Andrew Bailey was gifted a three-run lead – practically a free save – Thursday against Tampa, but completely melted down, recording just one out while allowing four hits, a walk and five runs. Vicente Padilla relieved him and surrendered the game-winning home run to B.J. Upton. Despite numbers uglified by this outing, Bailey's been pretty good otherwise since returning from a thumb injury that cost him much of the season.

Recommended Pickup
Chris Carpenter, SP, STL – Carpenter is available in plenty of leagues right now, and here is, finally making his season debut on Friday after missing all year with a shoulder injury. He hasn't thrown any actual rehab games, but hey, here he is at Wrigley Field. Tough to say what you'll get out of Carpenter, and you may want to let him ride that first one out on your bench, but he's certainly worth adding in almost any league. Well, except AL-only leagues. But you knew that already. Hey, it's DraftStreet time!

Other Recent Recommendations: Dylan Bundy, Chris Archer, Wily Peralta, Jacob Turner, Chris Nelson
