Weekly Rankings: Week 4 Value Meter

Weekly Rankings: Week 4 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

***CAROLINA and GREEN BAY on bye this week!!!***

Here are our rankings for the coming week at each position to help you decide your starting lineup. Our rankings are based on the following scoring system: three points for a passing touchdown; six points for a rushing/receiving touchdown; one point for every 20 passing yards; and one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards. Flex Rankings are for PPR leagues.

Typically, this article will be posted on Tuesday evenings, roughly around 6:00 pm PT.

I will update these during the week, usually twice per week to account for injury or other news during practice.

I try not to rely too much on matchups early on - personnel changes, both on the field and in the coaching staffs, dictate so much change, as does a critical injury. By all means, if you want to discuss a rank, or want me to add a player, chime in on the comments. I try to be receptive to your feedback and try to respond to most comments, though on occasion the volume can be quite thick. Please refer to the rankings first when asking "should I start Player A vs. Player B?".

I repeat, ***CAROLINA and GREEN BAY on bye this week!!!***

2.Drew Brees NO vs. Mia

Sunday Update Complete

Quarterback

1.Peyton Manning DEN vs. Phi
2.Drew Brees NO vs. Mia
3.*Michael Vick PHI at Den
Note: (Ankle) Was expected to practice Tuesday. Not listed on the Broncos' initial injury report.
4.Matthew Stafford DET vs. Chi
5.*Tony Romo DAL at SD
Note: (Ribs) Not on the Cowboys' initial injury report.
6.Matt Ryan ATL vs. NE
7.Robert Griffin WAS at Oak
8.Andrew Luck IND at Jax
9.Colin Kaepernick SF at StL
Note: I thought that you could write off Week 2 because of the opponent. That excuse is gone - could it really be that the absence of Vernon Davis means that much?
10.Ben Roethlisberger PIT at Min
Note: Lost in the disaster was Big Ben's 9.9 YPA.
11.Russell Wilson SEA at Hou
12.Philip Rivers SD vs. Dal
13.Alex Smith KC vs. NYG
14.Tom Brady NE at Atl
15.Joe Flacco BAL at Buf
Note: Bumped up - really like the matchup this week.
16.Eli Manning NYG at KC
Note: What a disaster - the OL stunk, but so did Eli.
17.Sam Bradford STL vs. SF
18.*Matt Schaub HOU vs. Sea
Note: Dealing with a sore ankle, and accused of making 'bad decisions' the last two games.
19.Jay Cutler CHI at Det
20.Carson Palmer ARZ at TB
21.Andy Dalton CIN at Cle
22.Ryan Tannehill MIA at NO
Note: Took five more sacks in the win.
23.*Brian Hoyer CLE vs. Cin
Note: The 321 yards and three touchdowns look great, and by all accounts it was better than Weeden. However, he had a 5.9 YPA and threw three picks. I'll be more impressed if he looks good against the Bengals this week.
24.EJ Manuel BUF vs. Bal
25.Geno Smith NYJ at Ten
26.*Matt Flynn OAK vs. Was
Note: Filled in for a concussed Pryor at the end of the game Monday night. Hurt a little by the potential for a late-game game-time decision. *** Pryor cleared to play, but Flynn will start. For what it's worth, this is a good matchup, at least. ***
27.Jake Locker TEN vs. NYJ
28.*Mike Glennon TB vs. Ari
Note: Named the starter ahead of Josh Freeman - gets a week where his top two receivers are banged up.
29.*Matt Cassel MIN vs. Pit
Note: *** Starting against the Steelers with Ponder out with a broken rib. ***
30.*Blaine Gabbert JAC vs. Ind
Note: Named the starter this week ahead of Chad Henne.
31.*Terrelle Pryor OAK vs. Was
Note: Suffered a concussion Monday night against the Broncos. There's no update on his status yet, understandably. Was on the field but was very limited Thursday. Coach Dennis Allen indicated that this would come down to a game-time (4:25 ET) decision. *** Cleared to play, but Flynn will start. ***
32.*Christian Ponder MIN vs. Pit
Note: Had a much better fantasy game than real life game, with two rushing touchdowns but also two turnovers. Dealing with sore ribs, took fewer snaps in practice Wednesday than Matt Cassel. *** Diagnosed with a fractured rib and will not start. ***
33.*Josh Freeman TB vs. Ari
Note: Lost the starting job to Mike Glennon, now on the trade block. Good luck with that, Bucs.

Running Backs

1.Alfred Morris WAS at Oak
2.Adrian Peterson MIN vs. Pit
3.*LeSean McCoy PHI at Den
Note: (Ankle) Was expected to practice Tuesday. He ran well after the second quarter injury, but with ankles it almost always seems to be the day after when you have to check on the status. Not on the injury report Wednesday.
4.Jamaal Charles KC vs. NYG
5.Doug Martin TB vs. Ari
6.DeMarco Murray DAL at SD
Note: 'Murray ... present ...' early-and-often last week.
7.*Marshawn Lynch SEA at Hou
Note: Sat out practice Wednesday for undisclosed reasons.
8.Matt Forte CHI at Det
9.Darren McFadden OAK vs. Was
Note: God Bless Garbage Time.
10.Frank Gore SF at StL
11.Trent Richardson IND at Jax
Note: Mixed opinions out there - Bradshaw saw more action and was the better back, but the Colts paid a big price to get him. How will the workload be parsed out in the future? *** Big bump up with Bradshaw out. Donald Brown will get some work, but I think this is a big week for Richardson. ***
12.*Maurice Jones-Drew JAC vs. Ind
Note: (Ankle) Able to gut it out last week and got some token production for his efforts. Rested Wednesday, but returned to practice Thursday. *** Active and starting this week.***
13.Arian Foster HOU vs. Sea
14.*Reggie Bush DET vs. Chi
Note: (Knee) Not shocking that Bush is more optimistic about his Week 4 status than coach Schwartz is at this point. Able to practice Wednesday and Thursday. *** Active and starting this week. ***
15.Chris Johnson TEN vs. NYJ
16.Bilal Powell NYJ at Ten
Note: Powell had a monster game against the Bills and Ivory probably won't be back this week.
17.*C.J. Spiller BUF vs. Bal
Note: Suffered a quad injury, but the Bills believe he will be fine. However, he was awful before the injury, and Fred Jackson was more effective. Full practice Thursday. *** Listed as probable. ***
18.*Ray Rice BAL at Buf
Note: (Hip) Apparently was close to playing last week. Has practiced both Wednesday and Thursday, though he was limited Thursday. *** Active and starting this week, though he may get fewer carries than normal. ***
19.Knowshon Moreno DEN vs. Phi
20.Giovani Bernard CIN at Cle
Note: Equal number of carries to BJGE last week with more production.
21.David Wilson NYG at KC
Note: At least he was the primary running back last week and looked good at times, including a touchdown run that was called back on a dubious holding penalty.
22.*Jacquizz Rodgers ATL vs. NE
Note: Both Rodgers and Snelling were productive in Jackson's absence - one could argue that Jackson wasn't missed much at all.
23.Joique Bell DET vs. Chi
24.Bernard Pierce BAL at Buf
25.Ryan Mathews SD vs. Dal
Note: Lost reps to Danny Woodhead and the goal line carries to Ronnie Brown.
26.*Lamar Miller MIA at NO
Note: Had a shoulder harness on Monday. Was at practice Wednesday.
27.*Stevan Ridley NE at Atl
Note: Yikes! On the field for only 26 snaps last week.
28.*Le'Veon Bell PIT at Min
Note: (Foot) Expected to make his debut this week. Full go in practice this week - my Pittsburgh radio peeps suggest he could get 15-20 touches. *** Practiced all week, listed as probable. ***
29.Fred Jackson BUF vs. Bal
30.*BenJarvus Green-Ellis CIN at Cle
Note: (Ankle) Limited Wednesday, full practice Thursday. *** Full practice Friday, probable for Sunday. ***
31.*Jason Snelling ATL vs. NE
32.*Rashard Mendenhall ARZ at TB
Note: (Toe) Fewer snaps but more carries than Ellington last week. Full practice Thursday.
33.Darren Sproles NO vs. Mia
34.Ben Tate HOU vs. Sea

Note: Left in the first quarter after his foot was stepped on. Limited in Monday's practice. Listed as probable.
36.Pierre Thomas NO vs. Mia
37.Andre Ellington ARZ at TB
38.Willis McGahee CLE vs. Cin
Note: Eight carries last week, compared to four for Rainey and two for Ogbonnaya. Likely to get an extended role this week.
39.*Brandon Bolden NE at Atl
Note: Now in the mix - essentially taking on the Shane Vereen role. (Knee) Limited in Wednesday's practice. *** Listed as questionable, same as he was last week. ***
40.Bryce Brown PHI at Den
41.Montee Ball DEN vs. Phi
42.Danny Woodhead SD vs. Dal
43.*Donald Brown IND at Jax
Note: *** Only three carries last week, but should get more this week with Bradshaw out. ***
44.Jordan Todman JAC vs. Ind
45.Jonathan Dwyer PIT at Min
46.Da'Rel Scott NYG at KC
47.Robert Turbin SEA at Hou
48.Michael Bush CHI at Det
Note: The Bears made a concerted effort to increase Bush's workload last week.
49.Daniel Thomas MIA at NO
50.*LeGarrette Blount NE at Atl
51.Ronnie Hillman DEN vs. Phi
Note: Don't read much into the touchdown - Hillman won a three-way rock/scissors/paper contest with Moreno and Ball. Still buried on my lists.
52.*Felix Jones PIT at Min
Note: Was the starter for one week, but buried after he lost a fumble early in the second half.
53.Roy Helu WAS at Oak
54.Rashad Jennings OAK vs. Was
55.Brandon Jacobs NYG at KC
56.Kendall Hunter SF at StL
57.Bobby Rainey CLE vs. Cin

64.Alfonso Smith ARZ at TB
65.Justin Forsett JAC vs. Ind
66.*Benny Cunningham STL vs. SF
67.*Chris Ivory NYJ at Ten
Note: Early hamstring sidelined Ivory, and the Jets aren't counting on a quick return. Hasn't practiced yet this week. *** Out for this week. ***
68.*Isaac Redman PIT at Min
Note: Appears to be the odd man out with Bell returning - could be inactive this week.
69.Isaiah Pead STL vs. SF
Note: Only six carries after Richardson left, but the Rams were in catch-up mode the whole ga
70.*Mark Ingram NO vs. Mia
Note: (Toe) Did not practice Thursday. *** Didn't practice all week, unlikely to play.***

Note: (Knee) Out a few more weeks.

Wide Receivers

1.Dez Bryant DAL at SD
2.Calvin Johnson DET vs. Chi
3.Demaryius Thomas DEN vs. Phi

5.DeSean Jackson PHI at Den
6.Brandon Marshall CHI at Det
7.Pierre Garcon WAS at Oak
8.Wes Welker DEN vs. Phi
9.A.J. Green CIN at Cle
10.Victor Cruz NYG at KC

12.Reggie Wayne IND at Jax
13.Antonio Brown PIT at Min

Note: (Hamstring) Full practice Wednesday. *** Active this week. ***

18.*Steve Johnson BUF vs. Bal
Note: Suffered a minor hamstring injury last week. Limited practice Thursday. *** Listed as active. ***

Note: One measly target - the Giants had just 45 offensive snaps, including a ton of sacks and a number of other garbage time plays with the first-team offense out.
20.*Andre Johnson HOU vs. Sea
Note: Left early with a shin injury last week but came out ok - should play this week. (Shin) Did individual drills Thursday, but didn't participate in the team practice. *** Active this week. ***

22.Anquan Boldin SF at StL
23.Dwayne Bowe KC vs. NYG
24.Mike Wallace MIA at NO
25.Eddie Royal SD vs. Dal
26.Denarius Moore OAK vs. Was
27.Mohamed Sanu CIN at Cle
Note: If A.J. Green draws Joe Haden exclusively, Sanu could get a lot of targets this week.
28.Cecil Shorts JAC vs. Ind
Note: Shorts' owners strenuously object to the decision to name Gabbert the starter this week.
29.Brian Hartline MIA at NO
30.Emmanuel Sanders PIT at Min
31.Golden Tate SEA at Hou
32.Kenbrell Thompkins NE at Atl
33.Nate Washington TEN vs. NYJ

35.Stephen Hill NYJ at Ten
36.Tavon Austin STL vs. SF
37.Aaron Dobson NE at Atl
38.Santonio Holmes NYJ at Ten
39.*Vincent Jackson TB vs. Ari
Note: Day-to-day with a rib injury that's been reported as an abdominal injury in other outlets. (Ribs) Did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. *** Both Jackson and Williams are active, but will either be limited in the number of snaps they can take? ***
40.*T.Y. Hilton IND at Jax
Note: Played through a groin injury but wasn't frequently targeted, though the Colts didn't throw often. *** Missed practice Friday and his foot was in a walking boot, but he's active Sunday. Still, that has to be worth a downgrade. ***
41.Donnie Avery KC vs. NYG
42.Greg Jennings MIN vs. Pit

Note: (Neck) Full practice Thursday. Jacoby Jones is out partying in the limo for another week.
44.Sidney Rice SEA at Hou
45.DeAndre Hopkins HOU vs. Sea

Note: With Burleson out indefinitely, opportunity knocks for Broyles.

66.Cordarrelle Patterson MIN vs. Pit

2.Jason Witten DAL at SD
