NFL Waiver Wire: Week 10 Pickups

NFL Waiver Wire: Week 10 Pickups

This article is part of our NFL Waiver Wire series.

This column is geared toward "standard" 12-team leagues and based upon a $100 free-agent budget. Please, please adjust for your league based on both the number of teams (I'm in a 24-team league, for example) and budget. This column will run every Tuesday to, hopefully, accommodate the various waiver schedules. I'll update it in the comments section during the week; please keep in mind a lot can change from Tuesday to Sunday.

Players listed/discussed last week: Drew Stanton, Jimmy Garappolo, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Breida, Corey Clement, Sterling Shepard, Juju Smith-Schuster, Robby Anderson, Jamison Crowder, Tre McBride, Calvin Johnson and Vernon Davis.

Byes: Kansas City, Oakland, Philadelphia and Baltimore

QUARTERBACK

Secondary Targets

Ryan Fitzpatrick, TB – It sounds as if Jameis Winston will miss at least a couple weeks with a shoulder injury, if not the rest of the season as the 2-6 Buccaneers seemingly have little to play for. Fitzpatrick was mentioned last week in this spot but is relevant again after Winston left Sunday's game with, as further tests revealed, more damage to his shoulder. Keep in mind Andrew Luck's shoulder trouble, and realize the weapons are good in Tampa Bay and Fitzpatrick is one of the better backups in the league. FAAB: $3-$6, go 5x-6x in two-quarterback leagues, on the higher end if you're a Jameis owner

QUARTERBACK

RUNNING BACK

Primary Targets

Kenyan Drake, Damien Williams, MIA – It's tough to tell how the Dolphins, who appear to be tanking, will divvy up the carries between Drake and Williams. Drake appears to have more upside after 15 touches for 104 yards Sunday, but Williams actually had the better fantasy day with 13 touches for 61 yards and a touchdown. On Monday, Adam Gase said the team will continue to use the two-headed system for the rest of the season, making both fantasy relevant. Drake is the slightly preferred option due to Williams never averaging more then 3.7 yards per carry in any of his four seasons. FAAB: Drake, $6-$12; Williams, $5-$10

Secondary Targets

Thomas Rawls, SEA – The offensive line for Seattle isn't good, though the addition of Duane Brown will help. Rawls had six carries for -1 yards against the Texans in Week 8 but rebounded Sunday with a 9-39 performance. Eddie Lacy's injury should open more carries for Rawls on early downs with C.J. Prosise and J.D. McKissic handling third-down and passing situations. Rawls hasn't looked good following blockers and picking up blitzes in pass protection, which could land him on the bench, but he should be in line for an increased workload playing with a quarterback who's a threat to run. FAAB: $4-$8

D'Onta Foreman, HOU – Foreman has had weird every-other-game logs with carries since the beginning of the season of 1, 12, 8, 13, 4, 12, 0 and 11. The 11 carries Sunday outpaced starter Lamar Miller, who had only 10. There's no reason to think there's a changing of the guard, but with Tom Savage under center expect teams to stack the box and challenge Savage to beat them. Foreman's workload likely will continue to be volatile but expecting near double-digit touches is reasonable. FAAB: $3-$6

Hail Mary

Devontae Booker, DEN – There's still a three-man committee in Denver with Booker taking on a bigger role in addition to starter C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles. Booker has had eight and nine touches in each of his last two games, turning them into 84 yards and a score. Anderson and Charles are still going to get their touches, but Booker would likely get double-digit touches on a regular basis should either be hit by the injury bug. FAAB: $1-$2

WIDE RECEIVER

Secondary Targets

Terrance Williams, DAL – Williams is a tough call because he left the Cowboys' victory Sunday late in the game with what appeared to be a knee injury. The key is the availability of Dez Bryant, who is battling both a knee and ankle injury that could vault Williams to the top receiver for the Dallas. Williams' big game (9-141) was something of an anomaly considering the previous three games he went 4-50 and has yet to find the end zone this season. If Bryant's out, bump Williams a couple bucks and consider Cole Beasley as well. FAAB: $3-$6 on speculation that Dez is out this week

Marquise Goodwin, SF – Pierre Garcon was placed on season-ending injured reserve, putting Goodwin in position to be the "next man up." Goodwin only caught two of eight targets for 64 yards Sunday, but that led the team's receiving corps with both Trent Taylor and Greg Kittle getting hurt. Kittle returned, and for this week only Aldrick Robinson ($2-$4) might be a good play if Janoris Jenkins is back for the Giants and on Goodwin. Still, for the rest of the season, Goodwin appears to be the 49ers' top wide receiver. FAAB: $3-$6

Corey Coleman, Josh Gordon, CLE – The acquisition of Gordon is entirely dependent on bench size and where your team is in the standings. Gordon cannot play until Week 13 but is expected to report to practice this week, and there's no reason the Browns not to kick the tires on him. If for no other reason, the Browns could trade him in the offseason or could try to get a win or two with the offense (the defense has actually been good) struggling so much. The other Browns wideout of fantasy significance – Corey Coleman – could return as soon as this week against the Lions, likely drawing the coverage of Darius Slay. Coleman is the preferred option because he has broader fantasy appeal. Just consider that on a week-to-week basis Gordon has higher upside. Adjust your bidding based on your league and realize this puts DeShone Kizer back on the radar, especially given his running ability. FAAB: Coleman, $3-$6; Gordon, $2-$4

TIGHT END

Secondary Targets

C.J. Fiedorowicz, HOU – Fiedorowicz (say that 10 times fast) is scheduled to come off IR this week. He doesn't have the best matchup Sunday against the Rams, but Tom Savage might lean on him as a safety blanket. If Tyler Kroft is still on the waiver wire he should be targeted with Fiedorowicz being a secondary option. After all, he went 54-559-4 last season, all respectable numbers for the position. FAAB: $3-$6

Hail Mary

Trey Burton, PHI – This pick is tied to the availability of Zach Ertz, who has dominated at the position this season. It seems like the Eagles' offense is peaking, and Ertz is an awesome red-zone target. Ertz was ruled out at the last minute Sunday, suggesting he should return after the bye and putting Burton back into obscurity in most standard leagues. In deeper leagues or two-tight end leagues take a flyer without giving up too much. FAAB: FCFS or $1
