FanDuel NHL: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

The World Series is over – congrats to Boston! – but that means you can focus all your attention on daily fantasy hockey. There are only two games Monday, but here are my recommendations based on that limited slate.

GOALIE

Frederik Andersen, TOR vs. CGY ($8,000): Frankly, Monday's goalie situation comes down to whether or not you want to shell out for Devan Dubnyk ($8,600), or go with Andersen. Given that the Danish netminder has a 2.58 GAA and .916 save percentage and is at home, I like him just fine. Calgary has been good offensively to start the year, but last season it ranked 27th in goals per game.

CENTER

Elias Pettersson, VAN vs. MIN ($5,300): Pettersson is back from his concussion, which means the Canucks have gotten their Calder candidate back in the lineup. The young Swede fired out of the gate with gusto, as he has eight points through six games. The Wild were strangely bad on the road last year, as they had a 3.41 GAA in away games.

Mikko Koivu, MIN at VAN ($5,200): Koivu had a bit of a down campaign last year, notching only 45 points. However, the Finnish veteran also had 14 power-play points, and he hasn't had fewer than 13 points with the extra man over the last decade. The Canucks have a 3.33 GAA this year, and last season they had a 3.16 GAA, sixth worst in the NHL.

WING

Matthew Tkachuk, CGY at TOR ($6,300): Though I recommend Andersen in net, I don't feel like every single Flame is somebody you must avoid. After all, Tkachuk has 13 points through 11 games, and he's started 61.5 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone. That's highest among Calgary forwards. Though Andersen has had a good year, the Maple Leafs did allow 33.9 shots on net per contest last season.

Jason Zucker, MIN at VAN ($5,700): Zucker took his game to a new level last season, as he notched 33 goals on 222 shots. He's stayed quite active to start this year, as he has four goals and 35 shots through 10 games. As previously noted, the Canucks had a 3.16 GAA last year, and they were actually worse at home (3.37 GAA).

Kasperi Kapanen, TOR vs. CGY ($4,100): Kapanen is skating on Toronto's top line, which is particularly important in this game. Auston Matthews is out with a shoulder injury, which means less depth at center for the Leafs. However, Kapanen still gets to skate with John Tavares, and the 22-year-old winger already has 10 points. Mike Smith is getting the start in net for the Flames, and he has a 3.91 GAA and .869 save percentage.

DEFENSE

Jake Gardiner, TOR vs. CGY ($4,700): Gardiner picked up his first goal of the season in Toronto's last game, giving him seven points on the year. He's not necessarily a huge goal scorer, but he did have 47 assists last season. As was just mentioned, Smith (3.91 GAA, .869 save percentage) is off to a less-than-ideal start to the season, which bodes well for Gardiner.

Mathew Dumba, MIN at VAN ($4,600): Dumba has double-digit goals in each of his last three seasons, including a personal-best 14 last year. He already has three goals this year, and he's put 25 shots on net through 10 games. Vancouver's goalies have a .897 save percentage this season, and with Anders Nilsson injured, Jacob Markstrom (.902 save percentage) is left to shoulder the load.
