FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

Sundays may traditionally be for football this time of the year, but that doesn't mean you can't play daily fantasy hockey. Even if you are watching the NFL playoffs, there are five NHL games Sunday night starting at 6:00 PM ET. Here are my recommendation for your lineups.

GOALIE

David Rittich, CGY vs. ARI ($8,000): Rittich, in addition to picking up a win in his last five starts, has compiled a 2.45 GAA and .920 save percentage on the season. A win over a lowly Coyotes team seems likely here, especially since they rank 29th in goals per game and are on the road for the second game of a back-to-back.

CENTER

Pierre-Luc Dubois, CLM vs. NYR ($6,000): Speaking of teams that are bad on the road, the New York Rangers sported a 4.19 GAA in away games heading into Saturday. Now they are away from home for the second game of a back-to-back. That certainly bodes well for Dubois, who has emerged as Columbus' top center with 39 points in 44 games.

Bo Horvat, VAN vs. FLA ($5,400): With Elias Pettersson out, Horvat is the top dog at center for the Canucks. He's having a fine season in his own right, with 17 goals on 130 shots through 46 games to go along with 19 assists. The Panthers are a long way from home, and they have not been good in away games with a 3.79 GAA.

WING

Patrik Laine, WPG vs. ANA ($7,400): Do you want a guy who puts pucks on goal? Then Laine is your man. He's notched 150 shots on net through 44 games, with 24 goals to his name. Why am I so keen to point this out? Because the Ducks have allowed 34.5 shots on net per contest, and their GAA has now climbed to 2.98. John Gibson can't keep facing this workload forever without showing cracks in his game.

Chris Kreider, NYR at CLM ($6,100): Kreider's scoring has slowed down, but he already has potted 20 goals in 44 games. He's also started 52.6 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, most among New York forwards. Like the Rangers, the Blue Jackets are on the second night of a back-to-back, and they will likely be starting Sergei Bobrovsky, who has posted a 3.98 GAA and .857 save percentage in his last five starts.

Michael Frolik, CGY vs. ARI ($3,900): Frolik has notched a goal in each of his last two games, and has racked up eight points in seven contests since returning from injury. The Coyotes have been good in goal, but no team is as strong on the road for the second game of a back-to-back. A lot of Arizona's prowess comes from its top-ranked penalty kill, and Frolik is not a power-play contributor.

DEFENSE

Zach Werenski, CLM vs. NYR ($5,500): Werenski took a little while to get going this season, but he's totaled nine points in his last 10 contests – giving him nine goals and 25 points through 44 games. The Rangers have been a disaster defensively on the road, as they rank 30th in both GAA and shots allowed per game. Add in the fact they are on the second leg of a back-to-back, and everything is coming up Werenski.

Alexander Edler, VAN vs. FLA ($4,400): Edler has notched 19 points in 31 games this season, and he's also been a real power-play threat. The 32-year-old has averaged 3:25 per game with the extra man, notching 10 points over that time. As previously noted, the Panthers come in with a 3.79 road GAA. On top of all that, Edler has blocked 90 shots, so he can add fantasy value on that front.
