DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Jordan Binnington, STL vs. COL ($7,900): The Avs have a ton of momentum coming in, winning six of their last seven with their only loss coming in overtime, and beat the Coyotes on Friday to hang onto the last wild card spot. However, their road record remains spotty, going 2-3-1 this month, while the Blues have won four straight at home. Binnington has been the Blues' MVP and despite a dip in his numbers this month (.912 Sv%, 2.37 GAA) remains well above the league average. Robin Lehner ($7,400) and the Isles at home against the slumping Leafs is an interesting value proposition as well.

CENTER

Connor McDavid, EDM at VGK ($7,400): He's only cheaper than Steven Stamkos ($7,700) because of his matchup, but with Malcolm Subban expected to start, the Knights' home-ice advantage is vanquished. In 20 appearances this season, Subban has a .911 save percentage at even strength and a .806 save percentage on the penalty kill (min. 15 games), which ranks 46th and 61st out of 65 goalies, respectively. McDavid's production against the Knights – 12 points in seven career games – should get a boost.

Nico Hischier, NJ vs. NYR ($5,000): He has just one assist in four games since returning from injury, but it's definitely not indicative of how well he's been playing. After being thrown back into the fire right away as the Devils' top center, Hischier has averaged 18 minutes a game and registered 12 shots on goal, carrying a team that has just two 20-goal scorers. Expected starter Henrik Lundqvist has allowed 15 goals in his past four starts and sports a .891 save percentage against the Devils this season.

WING

Blake Wheeler, WPG at CHI ($6,900): Wheeler has been a better performer at home but he's dominated the Blackhawks this season with seven assists in three games, including a three-assist, 11-shot effort in Chicago. The Blackhawks have a pretty good offense but also one of the worst defenses in the league, and even at their worst the Jets are talented enough to at least score a couple goals.

Tyler Johnson, TB at OTT ($5,000): The best-case scenario for Johnson would be for the Lightning to blow out the Sens quickly, forcing Jon Cooper to rest his top players and spread out his minutes. That means Johnson might see more action than usual and a chance to notch his 10th multi-point game of the season. The price is a tad steep, but Johnson has two goals in his past four games and usually plays with Nikita Kucherov.

Pavel Buchnevich, NYR at NJ ($4,500): His goal Sunday against the Flyers gave him 20 on the season, becoming just the third Ranger to do so. He's playing the best hockey of his career with a seven-game point streak, and the Devils have allowed 267 goals, fourth-worst in the league. The big Russian is hugely talented and averaged almost 17 minutes in March, a sign of confidence from Dan Quinn.

DEFENSE

Mark Giordano, CGY at LA ($6,700): It's the second game of a back-to-back and surely Giordano's minutes will get dialed back a tiny bit after the Flames clinched the conference last night, but the Kings are such a soft opponent that it shouldn't be hard to extend his point streak to three games. Strangely, the Kings are just one of two teams Giordano has yet to register a point against, but the odds are in his favor.

Vince Dunn, STL vs. COL ($3,900): He scored the overtime winner Saturday against Jersey, adding two shots and two blocked shots in over 23 minutes of action. Binnington is getting a lot of credit for the Blues' turnaround, but Dunn also deserves a shout out, scoring nine points in his past 15 games and averaging over 19 minutes playing with Alex Pietrangelo on the top pairing. Mikhail Sergachev ($4,100) is another young defender playing well and provides a lot of upside at relatively little cost.
