Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

GOALIE

Carter Hart, PHI vs. NYI ($34): Hart has let up four goals twice in August, and each time he's bounced back in remarkable fashion -- once with a 23-save shutout and next by steering away 31 of 33 shots. He let up three goals in Monday's loss, but look for the 22-year-old phenom to get back on track Wednesday.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Pavel Francouz, COL vs. DAL ($33): Francouz took down the Stars in the round-robin round, but it's fair to write that off as a meaningless game. He's allowed six goals on 46 shots since taking over the starting duties for Colorado, and the Stars don't look like they're slowing down anytime soon.

CENTER

Joe Pavelski, DAL vs. COL ($18): Pavelski centers the second line and has been instrumental in the Stars' five-game winning streak, stacking up five goals, two assists, 17 shots on net and a plus-6 rating. He seems to have a fairly decent fantasy floor, but he is more of a boom-or-bust play with two of the last five games beneath 4.0 fantasy points.

CENTER TO AVOID

Sean Couturier, PHI vs. NYI ($21): The Flyers struggles were teamwide in Monday's loss, but Couturier's 16:35 of ice time sticks out as his lowest of the postseason. While he centers the top line, it's tough to see much upside without the typical top-line minutes, and he was a damaging fantasy player in Game 1 with no points and a minus-2 rating.

WINGS

Brad Marchand, BOS vs. TB ($29): Marchand and his line have been remarkable, as usual, in August, and he may have the most potential on the unit with six goals and three helpers over the past six games. His shot volume remains quite high, too, so feel confident forking up the cash for his salary.

Ondrej Palat, TB vs. BOS ($15): Blake Coleman ($15) will likely be a highly utilized play in daily fantasy formats, so go for a similar salary that has just as much upside. Palat works on the top line next to Brayden Point and opposite Nikita Kucherov, and he's now strung together consecutive games with a point.

WINGS TO AVOID

Anthony Beauvillier, NYI vs. PHI ($18): Beauvillier has gone pointless in three of his last four contests. It's fair to point out that he has a high floor, but when we get to this salary range we want more frequent upside, and Hart's bounce-back efforts have been real. There's high risk with Beauvillier.

Alex Killorn, TB vs. BOS ($13): Killorn produced well in the regular season, but his analytics are in the gutter in August. Per Natural Stat Trick, he's generated just 1.67 xGF/60 over 10 games, and he's managed just one point over the past six contests. Don't take the bait of a second-line Tampa Bay winger as having a major upside.

DEFENSE

Cale Makar, COL vs. DAL ($23): Makar has been steady since the first round began with seven points over the past seven games. He hasn't proven the upside he normally has, but that is in his arsenal, as he posted 10 multi-point games in the regular season. Seek his potential against the Stars' brutal penalty kill (76.9 percent).

Shayne Gostisbehere, PHI vs. NYI ($15): The Flyers haven't scored a ton by nature of facing Carey Price in the first round, but they have a good chance to bounce back in this game. Despite his limited ice time Gostisbehere paces the squad with 2.74 xGF/60 in August, so he has one of the highest ceilings in this defensive salary range.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Victor Hedman, TB vs. BOS ($22): Hedman is finding his groove after recovering from a leg injury, as he has three points in two games versus the Bruins. It's a tough dilemma since he's one of the best defenders in the league, but he'll be a highly rostered player due to his recent surge. Steer clear, though, because he has posted 2.25 GF/60 in August -- the fifth among Lightning defensemen.

Ryan Pulock, NYI vs. PHI ($18): Pulock has just one point over the last five games, and while he sports a nice floor based on blocked shots and plus-minus rating, his offensive upside is lacking, especially since the Flyers' penalty kill (81.3 percent) has held its own in August.
