FanDuel NHL: Thursday Targets

SLATE PREVIEW

All teams in this two-game slate are 1-1, so two teams will head back to the hotel with momentum and a series lead. Both the Flyers and Canucks showed grit in Game 2 after bouncing back from embarrassments in the series openers, and that says a lot about teams that weren't penciled into playoff spots back in October.

I believe the Flyers will keep rolling, while the Golden Knights retake control. There's plenty of value to be found with every team, however, and I'll be keying in on some of those players for tonight's DFS contests.

GOALIES

Robin Lehner, VGK vs. VAN ($8,200): Lehner should get the start again even after letting up four goals on 26 shots in Game 2's loss, but his leash won't be very long with Marc-Andre Fleury as an eager and capable backup. He's held his own and bounced back from these blemishes in August, so look for him to stand tall once again Thursday night.

Brian Elliott, PHI vs. NYI ($7,200): Keep an eye out for whether Elliott stars, but it wouldn't be at all surprising because if Carter Hart starts, it'll be his sixth time in 10 days. The Flyers are true contenders and may want to keep their star goalie fresh. And they shouldn't be worried about tapping Elliott, who has a successful playoff history and was sturdy in his lone start against Washington earlier in the month.

VALUE PLAYS

Tyler Toffoli, VAN vs. VGK ($5,600): Toffoli's ice time was limited in his return to action Tuesday, playing 14:35, but he was electric with his second three-point game of 2020. He could be highly rostered tonight, though, so he's better primed for cash games.

Josh Bailey, NYI vs. PHI ($4,800): While Toffoli is tailored for cash games, Bailey is best fit for tournaments. In three of the last eight games, Bailey has recorded less than 3.5 fantasy points, but he's topped 16 points in four of those contests. That's quite the risk, but his salary is justifiable.

Alex Tuch, VGK vs. VAN ($4,500): Tuch rides a three-game goal streak into this contest, but he lives up to his evaluation even when he doesn't find the back of the net, as he's failed to fire three or more shots on net just once in August. He would be in the top-six with most other teams.

FORWARD LINE STACKS

Vegas Golden Knights vs. Vancouver Canucks

C - William Karlsson ($5,700)
W - Max Pacioretty ($7,800)
W - Mark Stone ($7,300)

Their production hasn't been game-breaking or contest-winning, but they're knocking on the door by generating tons of chances, as Pacioretty and Karlsson rank first and second on the team in xGF/60, per Natural Stat Trick, while Stone is a not-so-distant fifth.  The Golden Knights ran into a bit of a roadblock Tuesday but look for this line to lead the charge to reclaim their series lead.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Islanders

C - Kevin Hayes ($5,300)
W - Travis Konecny ($5,300)
W - Michael Raffl ($3,600)

Kayes bagged two goals in the first period Wednesday, and Konecny helped on his first score. Be careful, though, because this group doesn't have much of a floor, as they combined for two shots on net in Game 1, but the salary is low and we saw the upside in Game 2.

DEFENSEMEN

Ivan Provorov, PHI vs. NYI ($4,900): Provorov has put up just four points in August and recorded two on the power play. His work with the man advantage makes him so much more valuable against the Islanders' bottomed-out penalty kill (75.8 percent), but he does carry quite a bit of risk with a low shot volume and blocked shot count.

Alexander Edler, VAN vs. VGK ($4,500): We've seen Quinn Hughes' ice time slip below 20 minutes for three straight games, but Edler's has stayed constant and so has his output. He's notched two assists, 10 shots on net and 15 blocked shots in that stretch.

Alec Martinez, VGK vs. VAN ($3,800): Martinez's point streak ended Tuesday, just as the Golden Knights crumbled. He's an instrumental part of this team's blue line, and he pushes the puck well, posting a 3.14 xGF/60 in August -- the second-best rate on Vegas' defensemen. His salary is an absolute steal, as it has been for most of the postseason
