Calgary acquired Delmore from the Red Wings on Wednesday in exchange for Riley Armstrong, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Delmore used to be a mid-30's scorer from the blue line, but those days are long past and he's barely able to crack an NHL roster these days. He's only played in seven NHL games since the 2003-04 season ended.

Delmore returns to North America after playing two seasons in Germany. He'll likely help man the blue line at Grand Rapids, while a brief stint with Detroit is unlikely barring a rash of injuries to the team's rich defensemen corps.
A true offensive defenseman. He has one of the hardest shots in pro hockey and uses it effectively, especially on the point on a power play. His major weakness is his defensive game which ensures he won't a large number of minutes. With the trade of Alexei Zhitnik the Thrashers have a capable power play QB so it's unlikely Delmore will get much of a chance this season. If he does make the club he could put up some numbers on the PP (like he did with Nashville in 2001 and 2002). Even if he makes the Thrashers he should only help owners in deeper leagues.
This offensive wizard is as one-dimensional as your shadow on a sunny day and he's even more lost than a puppy on a four-lane highway, particularly in his own zone. Coach John Tortorella will tire of Delmore faster than it takes him to scream the guy's name and Delmore will find his butt in the AHL. You're better off without this headache.
Delmore comes with some flags - he's not great in his own end - but he's a talented offensive player and a great specialist for the power play. If the Blue Jackets give him PP time to start, he's a great sleeper in any format. Watch the opening games closely.
