Betts missed all of the 2011-12 campaign, and didn't play in any leagues during the lockout. It's unlikely he'll see any NHL action this year, so he figures to be a non-factor in all fantasy leagues.
Betts is a gritty center who’s strong on the penalty kill. Unfortunately, a knee-injury prevented him from seeing action during the Flyers’ 2011-12 campaign. Even if Betts recovers for the 2012-13 season, low points, PIMs and plus-minus ratings over his last six NHL seasons make it unlikely he’ll be the asset to fantasy owners that he'll be to the Flyers.
Looking back at the 2010-12 season, Betts failed to bring much to the table for the Flyers down the stretch as he managed just a lone point from March until the end of the year, and his ice time dwindled as a result. He required offseason surgery on his finger, but it's not thought to be serious enough to keep him out of training camp in the fall. Betts, however, is buried pretty deep down the depth chart, making his impact in the scoring department likely minimal.
Betts is another player whose value to his real-life team far outweighs his benefit to fantasy rosters. He's very good on the penalty kill, but as a result he doesn't see many chances to rack up some points. His points should be in double-digits once the season ends, but his PIMs are negligible and he doesn't contribute on the power play.
Betts has developed into the team’s most reliable faceoff specialist and is very adept in penalty killing situations. He’ll never be anything more than a 3rd or 4th line centerman, but he’s a terrific team guy that every organization would love to have. In 75 games in 2007-08, Betts recorded two goals and five assists for 7 points to go along with 20 PIMs. Problem is team guys have a tendency to find themselves without a job when a younger, cheaper, player with more upside comes along.
Betts has developed into the team’s most reliable faceoff specialist and is very adept in penalty killing situations. He’ll never be anything more than a 3rd or 4th line centerman, but he’s a terrific team guy that every organization would love to have. In 82 games in 2007-08, Betts recorded nine goals and four assists for 13 points to go along with 24 PIMs.
Betts has come a long way from being a roster question mark to a special teams cog. He's unquestionably one of the Blueshirts most consistent faceoff men (53.4% on faceoffs), and one of the most fearless contributors on blocking shots (58). He'll likely continue in this role and anchor a Rangers' special team that has been fairly good in 2005-06.
Providing depth and energy, Betts will get some chances to stick on Broadway; but then again, he'll probably see alot of DNP as well, shifting in and out of the lineup during the course of the year. Worst case scenario, he gets sent back to Hartford; at the end of the year however, his statistics will not be eye-poping. In 35 career games, Betts has registered three goals, five assists and 12 PIMs.
