Foote (leg) who announced his retirement Friday, hopes to be able to play his final NHL game Sunday against Edmonton, the Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
"I'm about 70 percent, and it's not good," Foote said of his leg Friday night. "It's fun and good that they're allowing me to play and say goodbye and have one last time [Sunday] at the Pepsi Center." Sounds like if Foote does suit up against the Oilers, it will mostly be for sentimental reasons as his sore leg probably won't allow him to play his usual 18-19 minutes of ice time. Make sure you exhaust all other fantasy d-man options before you roll Foote on Sunday.

Foote, who turned 39 in July, will return this year to play his 19th season in the NHL. He proved to be a valuable source of veteran leadership for the young, rebuilding Avs last season, and the team will count on him to provide more of the same this year. However, with no goals and nine assists in 67 games this season, he provides very little by way of fantasy value.
The newly-appointed successor to the Avs' captaincy following Joe Sakic's retirement, Foote will provide experience and leadership to a young, rebuilding team trying to get back into the playoffs. Foote is a workhorse defenseman when healthy, however age and his gritty style of play appear to be catching up to him, as he played just 42 games last season due to an assortment of injuries. For the 10-15 points he might get you over the course of a full season, he's not worth the fantasy risk.
The wily, 37-year old veteran is back for one more tour of duty with his old team. Foote is a stay-at-home blueliner with excellent leadership skills - precisely the reasons why Colorado brought him back. He will be of much greater use to the Avs' lineup than to your fantasy roster.
Foote played in only 59 games last season, and at 36 he isn't suddenly going to become more durable. He's a valuable veteran presence on a thin Columbus blue line, but he has no fantasy value.
The Blue Jackets captain, and a defensive stalwart, Foote managed 22 points and 89 PIMs in 65 games last season.
Foote settled into a comfortable 30-point range during his final seasons with the Avalanche, and given that he'll probably see his fair share of power play time in Columbus there's no reason to think he can't duplicate that. His high profile free-agent signing and apparent spot as the Blue Jackets' "#1 defenseman" will probably cause him to be overvalued in most drafts. Foote can be a force on the ice, but more in his own end than offensively.
