ANALYSIS
Hensick spent all of last season in the Canadiens organization at AHL Hamilton, where he registered an impressive 19 goals and 60 points over 75 games. The 29-year-old provides some playmaking ability at the forward spot, and could see some NHL ice time as a call-up in 2015-16 if injuries should thin the Hurricanes' ranks at any point.

Though he has 112 games of NHL experience, Hensick has yet to make his skilled offensive game work for him at the top level of the sport. He had a few callups to St. Louis last season and he'd seem to be a natural for a team starving for forward depth. But the Blues went outside the organization to add forwards, meaning Hensick will start 2011-12 at AHL Peroia. The three-time AHL All-Star needs to show a little more proclivity in his own end and be willing to engage a bit more physically to be taken seriously as a viable third-line forward at the NHL level.
Hensick was acquired by the St. Louis organization in a trade from Colorado in the offseason. An AHL All-Star last season, Hensick is a highly skilled playmaker (50 assists in 58 AHL games last season) with 101 games of NHL experience. He'll likely line up with the Peoria Rivermen, but be a top call-up option to St. Louis should injuries strike.
As training camp opened, Hensick was being given a look at the RW spot instead of his usual center position. Hensick had limited success as a center last season, and since the Avs are deep at that position this year, the team wants to see how he makes out on the wing. If Hensick winds up on a line with the highly anticipated Matt Duchene, he could be worth a late-round pick in deeper fantasy leagues. Keep an eye on him.
Hensick spent his rookie season shuffling between Lake Erie of the AHL and the Avalanche. He scored 11 points in 31 games for the Avs and didn't look out of place. Hensick has great speed and all the offensive skills needed to be an impact scorer in the NHL. What he lacks is size, and needs to add some bulk to his 5-10, 185-pound frame to be able to win more one-on-one battles for the puck. However, he should be a regular in the lineup this season and could vault past Tyler Arnason as the team's No. 3 center.
Hensick was reassigned to the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League in Sept. 2007.
