Sits out 2017-18 season

September 5, 2017
Hurley, a second-round pick from 2013, is transferring to the University of Minnesota from Notre Dame, The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Hurley played just 21 games for Notre Dame in his junior season, scoring four goals and 16 points, and missed nearly half the season due to undisclosed personal reasons. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Hurley will sit out the 2017-18 season before suiting up for the Gophers for 2018-19. The Minnesota native was a tall, lanky playmaker in the USHL when he was drafted, and he was always considered a long-term project. The Sabres will continue to retain his rights.

2013 Fantasy Outlook
Hurley was the 38th overall selection in June’s NHL Draft and projects as a playmaking center with a strong two-way game. He spent time last season with Edina High School (MN) and the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. He’ll likely head back to the USHL this fall, and has committed to the University of Notre Dame for 2014-15, making him several years away from being on the radar at the NHL level.
