Ruopp inked a one-year deal with EIHL Manchester on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Ruopp was selected in the third round of the 2011 NHL Draft by Arizona (Phoenix), but he was traded to the Penguins organization prior to leaving the WHL. The 25-year-old never cracked an NHL lineup, as he has spent the bulk of his career toiling in the ECHL. At this point, it seems unlikely the blueliner will work his way back to North America and will likely play out his career abroad.

Ruopp, who came to Pittsburgh in the Zbynek Michalek trade, has spent the last four seasons with the WHL Prince Albert Raiders. He doesn't have the upside of several other defensive prospects, especially at the offensive end of the ice. Ruopp, 20, scored one goal and 16 points in 65 WHL games last year. He's nasty -- averaging 129 penalty minutes his last two seasons -- but a lack of scoring likely dooms his future as a fantasy producer. He's set to make his AHL debut in 2013-14.
Ruopp, acquired from Phoenix in the Zbynek Michalek trade this past summer, scored only nine points (2G, 7A) in 62 WHL games. Described as an energy player, Ruopp recorded 127 PIMs for Prince Albert. The 19 year-old was selected 84th overall by the Coyotes in 2011 and figures to spend at least several seasons in the minors before making any potential impact in the NHL.
Ruopp, one of the Coyotes' 2011 draft picks, didn't find the back of the net in 54 WHL games last season while picking up nine assists. He'll need to spend more time in the junior leagues before he comes close to NHL action.
