Kwiatkowski will not be rejoining the Thrashers this season despite signing a contract with the team last Monday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Kwiatkowski double-booked himself for the upcoming season. "After agreeing to to terms on a contract with Joel Kwiatkowski, we learned that he had already committed to a team in the KHL," general manager Don Waddell said in a statement. "Therefore we have rescinded our offer." Kwiatkowski will again play in Russia for the 2009-10 season.

Kwiatkowski is the Thrasher's insurance in case youngsters Mark Popovic and/or Tobias Enstrom aren't ready for the show this season. It's a definite -- probably the most likely -- possibility that Kwiatkowski will make the team but he won't provide any fantasy value. Expect around 10 points as the Thrashers 6th or 7th defender.
Only an offensive threat in the AHL, don't expect any fantasy value from the Panthers' depth defenseman.
Kwiatkowski quietly had a very productive 2004-05 season, splitting time between two AHL teams. The word on Kwiatkowski was that he needed to work on his offensive production to stick on the NHL level. He responded by putting up 20 goals in the minors while maintaining a positive plus/minus rating (on two not-so-great teams, to boot). Jacques Martin has some experience with Kwiatkowski when the pair were in Ottawa, so the coach knows Kwiatkowski is an ideal seventh defenseman.
