Deveaux only played with AHL San Antonio last season, where he recorded seven goals, seven assists, and 56 PIMs in 46 games. If he manages to crack the Panthers' lineup this year, most of his value will come when his gloves are off.
Deveaux is a heavy; nothing less, nothing more. His value lies in leagues that count sin bin points.
Deveaux has the look of a career minor leaguer. Let's hope he proves us wrong but it's a long bus ride up from the ECHL.
He works hard but his future, if he has one in the NHL, will be on the fourth line. He will need to prove he can skate with the big boys, though, as the rule changes mean there's no room at the inn any more for one-dimensional enforcers.
The pugnacious winger will add an gritty edge to the Springfield Falcons in 2004-2005. He played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Belleville and Owen Sound, recording 42 goals, 71 assists and 431 penalty minutes in 249 games.
