Conboy will likely spend the entire season playing in the AHL for the Binghamton Senators where he'll provide some solid veteran leadership to what will be a fairly young team.
Conboy signed a two-way deal with Buffalo in the summer, but it would be a surprise if he sees any time with the big club in 2010-11. Portland fans will love the physical forward, who hits anything that moves.
It’s widely believed that the Hurricanes don’t have a true enforcer on their roster. Conboy’s name probably comes up in conversations about toughness, but he simply doesn’t reside in the sin bin enough to earn the enforcer title just yet. Of course, playing time in the NHL was scarce for Conboy just a season ago as he appeared in only 28 contests, managing an unimpressive 37 PIMs in that timeframe. It was the same story for the postseason. The blueliner only saw three games of action which does not bode well for his 2009-10 season. In fact, even with increased playing time, he’d drop the gloves more often with little more than an uptick in the penalty category.
With his second straight year of noticeable decline in offensive production, Conboy's potential is fading fast. Carolina is loaded at the blue line, and he'll be hard pressed to find ice time at the NHL level.
Very little chance of significant ice time with the parent club, unless there are several blue line injuries.
Conboy was signed to give the Hurricanes blue line depth. Injuries ahead of him may give him some playing time opportunities, but he is very unlikely to justify a fantasy selection.
