Barriball finished up his fifth year at the University of Minnesota and began his professional career with St. Louis' AHL affiliate in Peoria. He's still on the smallish side is coming off a knee injury in 2009 and a leg injury in 2010. It looks like he'll open the season with Peoria and is part of the group of prospects the Blues are sending to the Traverse City prospects tournament.
Barriball, 23, will be a fifth-year player for the University of Minnesota hockey team, for whom he is the captain. He's coming off a knee surgery (torn ACL) that forced him to miss much of last season, and returns as captain of the 2010-11 team. His future in St. Louis is a bit clouded by the knee injury.
After scoring 43 points in 44 games as a freshman at the University of Minnesota, Barribal scored just 21 points in 41 games as a sophomore in 2007-08. The scoring potential is there but he is not in the first tier of Blues prospects at this time.
